I hunt city limits sometimes. but it is a huge penalty if you get caught firing a gun or bow in city limits. possible prison time. most game wardens or cops seem willing to overlook it, if your using common sense. one stiff cop, and you could be doing 10 years in prison. some cities I hear will give you a permit for certain areas to use a shotgun.

put the crack pipe down, nobody is going to prison, much less for 10 years for bow hunting in the city limits. Geezelouise...

What crime are they going to charge you with that carries a 10 year sentence or any prison time?

Auburn has some jam up hunting inside the city limits and very close to campus. I know of a couple very good bucks that died right where the Walmart on College Ave now sits.

I saw one of the biggest deer I have ever seen at the horse unit one evening when I was in school down there.

My brother had a 150 inch buck in his backyard in Liberty park last year when we were over watching football. I would end up in trouble living there.

like I said. I hunt city limits sometimes. but it would be foolish for me not to look up what the law really says, so I did. whats wrong with being informed and knowing the possibilities. I didn't make the law. and hope it doesn't get enforced. Bham Fred you must be on meth to not know this exsist.

What law? Please tell us. Is this a state law, federal law or city Ordanance?

I do it on occasion at my house. I have 9 acres and some of that is acorn flat/creek bottom. I have a group of does that travel up and down the creek every day and when the rut comes in they draw in a few bucks. Last Sunday I set up in a hedgerow and about 8 am a couple of does came down the creek. I took a pic of them and sent to my wife and she replied that she wanted one of the bigger ones for some summer sausage. I noticed my neighbor on his back deck so I had to call him first and tell him not to jump off his back deck when I pulled the trigger. Then I picked me one out and punched a hole in her. He came running down to the creek and was more excited about it than I was. He wants me to kill a few off the creek because he thinks we have "too many".

I've got a few bucks roaming around my area I'd like to set up on, but I don't know who to ask for permission. Sounds like a good opportunity.

Is this a new law? I used to bow hunt practically in downtown Athens. I called the local police and game warden and was told that I was good as long as I had written permission to hunt the property.

I walked out one time and there was a police officer parked behind my truck. He had been patrolling the neighborhood and saw my headlamp as I was walking out of the woods. He just wanted to make sure that I was not up to any mischief. After he saw I had been hunting, we chatted for a bit and then he went on his way.

I killed a good 9 point last year 5 mins from chik fila! If you get permission hunt it some areas are great hunting! the deer are still wild but are more used to human scent! shot a deer a few Sundays ago while listening to people talking, a leaf blower going and a Dozier running.

Its a residential area with no highways near by, and mostly older people in the neighborhood. Its so frustrating to go hunting and not be see anything, and my wife send me pics of deers just hanging out in the back yard...

it's very productive - there's nothing like smelling folk's dryer sheets or their bbq grills or smokers. or listening to someone fire up a leaf blower or hear the distinctive "tink" of an aluminum bat connecting with a ball. yep, urban hunting is great and you don't have to be so worried about scent control.
