Funny how the law more than almost anything else gets twisted on this site.

In Florida, child support ends on 18th birthday. Also kids can decide who they want to live with at 16. Who the hell pays support after age 18 and why? At 18 you're out of school and either going to college or working. Yall must develop slower up there, lol. J/K

Funny how the law gets twisted by a surprisingly high percentage of POS civil court judges in this state.

Unfortunately I am just beginning this battle. I can't talk about it right now but once the initial phases are settled I will share some of my details. I am new to this whole process and so far I am absolutely horrified!

Also once the first phases are worked out in my case look for a new campaign in the state of Alabama to increase support for fathers rights and I hope each of you that have had some dealings with this will help support this effort as it is desperately needed.

You know us Alabaimians. We just like screwing our sisters and being lazy, non reading bad drivers who kill all the baby deer.

Good luck.
This is what I thought would happen. I just wonder how far ahead of their 18th should I get started. I need to just call my lawyer.

what others have said - in alabama, the 'age of majority' is 19.

you will only pay college costs if that is what has been agreed on and that is what is written in the divorce papers.

You need your attorney to draw up papers and file the papers a month before or right when they turn 18. It would definitely help if you talked with ex and try to get her to agree. If not be sure your attorney adds the wording to papers stating that she has to repay any support collected after they moved in with you. Don't worry about her brother in-law being a judge. If he sticks his nose in to this call the State Bar Association and file a complaint against him. He will definitely back off.

FL it's 18.

Glad mine are all over 18 now. 256,000 in child support over the years and lost my house and half my other shitt. Marriage is grand.

An old friend of mine was forced to keep paying for kids college even after the grades had slipped badly and enrolled was less than fulltime (both in decree). I find that stupid that my parents refused to pay for college because they stayed married but if divorced would have had to pay ... Yet another thing the government needs to stay the heck out of.

I think it was Gleason that said: Everyone makes mistakes but if you marry one you pay for it the rest of your life.

Apparently some of the college requirement was just struck down in Alabama, see the video below.

Shotts prayers to you buddy. It is scary and not a good time for you or your kids. No kids should ever have to go through this no matter how old they are at the time. My kids and I went through this about 8 years ago when my kids(both boys) were almost 4 and 2 1/2. They are now 11 and 10. My 10 year old is probably more mature than his momma and my 11 year old has bad confidence problems, that I don't know how to fix to be quite honest. Its kills me not being with my sons everyday like a daddy should be but I always make sure they know I love them and that daddy will always be here for them no matter what. I pray for a smooth as possible process for you, your kid(s), and yes even your X.

I didn't know it changed. As far as I know, if the kid goes to college, you have to continue to pay until they are finished or stop going. I have friends whose dads were peed off when they found out they couldn't stop paying at 18. O haven't checked up on this lately.

It's definitely changed; my final decree was July 20th & there's nothing in it about college. My final CS payment is the month of their 19th b-day. What happens beyond that, God only knows, 'cause I'm so bent over right now I can barely afford to feed them during visitations.

I agreed to pay for college for my kids as long at they maintain a certain GPA, got all the scholarship money they could, and up to age 23. I would have done that had I stayed married anyway so it's no big deal. All they have to do is study and do well. My gift to them is to minimize the burdened of unbearable yoke of student loan debt if I can.

That's good you are paying or are capable of paying. I know how expensive it can be. When right out of high school, I received pell grants and worked. It got to where I couldn't get a full grant because I made too much, about $15000/yr, but it wasn't enough to pay all my bills and tuition. We have tuition reimbursement at work. Most people don't take advantage of it. It is hard working full time, going to school and making time for family.
