In Florida, child support ends on 18th birthday. Also kids can decide who they want to live with at 16. Who the hell pays support after age 18 and why? At 18 you're out of school and either going to college or working. Yall must develop slower up there, lol. J/K

Funny how the law more than almost anything else gets twisted on this site. Funny how the law gets twisted by a surprisingly high percentage of POS civil court judges in this state.

Unfortunately I am just beginning this battle. I can't talk about it right now but once the initial phases are settled I will share some of my details. I am new to this whole process and so far I am absolutely horrified!
Also once the first phases are worked out in my case look for a new campaign in the state of Alabama to increase support for fathers rights and I hope each of you that have had some dealings with this will help support this effort as it is desperately needed.

They can move in with you if they are 18. Your ex doesn't want to lose the check. My ex & I split our kids. I raised our son and she raised our daughter. There was no child support til my son graduated and went in to the Marines. I had to pay child support for 4 years. When my daughter turned 18, she moved in with my wife & I. Child support was stopped immediately. My ex didn't like it but when she found out she would have to repay anything collected after daughter moved in with us, she backed off. What was said earlier is true. If children want to move before 18, it can happen but only if judge feels it's in the best interest of the child. Get with your attorney and get the paperwork drawn up. Good luck. This is what I thought would happen. I just wonder how far ahead of their 18th should I get started. I need to just call my lawyer.
Get close, call soft

You need your attorney to draw up papers and file the papers a month before or right when they turn 18. It would definitely help if you talked with ex and try to get her to agree. If not be sure your attorney adds the wording to papers stating that she has to repay any support collected after they moved in with you. Don't worry about her brother in-law being a judge. If he sticks his nose in to this call the State Bar Association and file a complaint against him. He will definitely back off.

Glad mine are all over 18 now. 256,000 in child support over the years and lost my house and half my other shitt. Marriage is grand.

- child support ends at 19. Person that paid in college did because he agreed to. - legal to sign a contract 18 - no age in Ala that a child can determine where they live in custody proceedings. More mature the child the more some Judges will listen. - over 14 a child can decide in probate court in guardianship proceedings thus the confusion. This law does not apply in divorces. - by the time you fought it out in court children would be 19 and/or cost more than you would save in CS. I didn't know it changed. As far as I know, if the kid goes to college, you have to continue to pay until they are finished or stop going. I have friends whose dads were peed off when they found out they couldn't stop paying at 18. O haven't checked up on this lately.

It's definitely changed; my final decree was July 20th & there's nothing in it about college. My final CS payment is the month of their 19th b-day. What happens beyond that, God only knows, 'cause I'm so bent over right now I can barely afford to feed them during visitations.

I agreed to pay for college for my kids as long at they maintain a certain GPA, got all the scholarship money they could, and up to age 23. I would have done that had I stayed married anyway so it's no big deal. All they have to do is study and do well. My gift to them is to minimize the burdened of unbearable yoke of student loan debt if I can.

Dr. B That's good you are paying or are capable of paying. I know how expensive it can be. When right out of high school, I received pell grants and worked. It got to where I couldn't get a full grant because I made too much, about $15000/yr, but it wasn't enough to pay all my bills and tuition. We have tuition reimbursement at work. Most people don't take advantage of it. It is hard working full time, going to school and making time for family.
