My son will be taking his 300 BLK again this year. Last year, at 6 years old, it was his first year hunting. He ended up with two does and an 8 point and missed one doe. Figure if it ain't broke don't fix it.
Will track deer in Marengo, Greene, Sumter, Wilcox, Perry, Hale counties.

Man all these kids shooting a 7-08 makes me feel like a sissy that's what I hunt with. Lol!!! my 13 year old hunts with it but I think my boy is still a little small.gustion can you hunt with a 30 round clip in a AR or do I need to get a 10 round clip.think we going with the 243 but just in case I would like to know what the rule is on that private land it doesn't matter. I think it does matter on public land though. Seems like 10 round mag is still to much but cant remember for sure. I bought some 10 round mags anyway to hunt with, just for weight, and didnt want to bump mag if shooting out of shooting houese.

I looked and couldnt find anything about mag capacity, maybe that was an old law or something.

Until recently the magazine capacity on public land was 10 rounds. That may have changed in the last two years, but not much longer ago than that. Private land anything goes. That said, there are plenty of 10 round mags available that fit nearly flush in an AR. They are easier to hunt with as they are less likely to knock/catch on clothes, brush, or shooting house window sills. I think it depends on the WMA. Skyline state 11 rounds or less. Get a 10 round mag regardless if you hunt public or private land. Like has been stated, it makes your rifle handle much better in the stand. Since you already have the AR platform, check out a 6.8 upper before you buy a 243.
