The way things are snowballing with anything to do with the confederate flag, rebels, anything related to the Southern side of War for Southern Independence, or any hijacked item used by racist hate groups in modern times,,,,I wonder if MS will change their flag....my heritage flag. I was born, raised and kinda educated in the great state. Proud to be a resident of Alabama though too. I'm thinking they will not change it at all. I've got friends that give it 2 months. Will they change it? If so, what's the over/under on when they change it? (1 months, 2 months, etc...)

Forecast calling for 100% chance of flag change in 6 months. If they can get the University of Mississippi to change the mascot from a southern civil war soldier to a bear, you can bet the flag will be changed.

Dr. B I was a student at Ole Miss when the University officially stopped using the Rebel Flag. Then they tried to outlaw the students from waiving the Rebel Flag. When that got shut down, they outlawed all "sticks" or "poles" as a safety issue (an eye could get put out...yes this was their reasoning). So we brought our flags in without sticks. Colonel Reb was safe at least. Now for the record, Colonel Rebel wasn't a representation of a soldier, but a southern gentleman. "Blind Jim" Ivy was a local citizen...a black man...blinded in his teens...was at all the early years games through the 1930's...He dressed like a plantation gentleman and was beloved and became the unofficial mascot. When Ole Miss changed its nickname from The Flood to the Rebels in 1936, the local student newspaper drew up a cartoon character that was a southern gentleman...Col Reb. (most likely a former soldier in their mind)...the image looked like Mr. Ivy, but Col Reb was white. For a good while Ole Miss had a student selected as Col Reb dressed in Civil War uniform on the sidelines. They changed to a Mascot, adopting the 1936 character image, for an on the field mascot, Colonel Reb, in 1979. Col Reb was on the filed or court until 2003, when admins removed him...but he was still present off the field officially. Fast forward 25 years and several attempts to remove Col Reb altogether had failed. Eventually a group of faculty organized the student base which had become more liberal...just as our culture has become more liberal over the last 3 decades. They eventually pulled off the final straw a few years ago...dismissing Col Rebel for good. At least I was at the last home game and my youngest son, a rabid Rebel fan, got to get his picture with him. That was the last official appearance of Colonel Reb. Add to that the University administration removed "Slow Dixie" from the band playlist about 5 years ago too. But as we know, Universities are profoundly liberal in their stances and progressive in their moves...and the South has not been spared. But I sure hope that the legislators in the State can see past the uprising. They are not so loose in their positions, one would hope. We shall see.

we (miss'ippi) will change the flag...major ncaa events (lost revenue for local areas) lost or not considered because of it.
and it has already been pointed out that if we don't redesign, and only remove sab from corner, we will basically have the flag of france.

I actually think it is probably only about 50-50 chance of changing the flag. The legislative session doesn't start for another 6 months, and with our country's short attention span, I think a lot of people will have likely forgotten about it by then. The Governor and Lt. Governor both are on the record as saying they do not support changing the flag, or at least letting the issue die. Last time when it came up in 2001, they legislature sent it to the people to have a popular vote and the current flag won in a big way, about 64%-36%. Attitudes have certainly changed since then, and some older voters died off. If it were brought up in a presidential election year, that would certainly help the cause of changing it since a whole lot more voters would go to the polls. If they have a standalone special election like last time, voter turnout would likely be pretty low.
Last time it came up, the options were to keep the current flag, or to change to a new design, which was basically the current flag, with the battle flag portion replaced with a blue field and 20 stars. It was ugly. There is a growing movement of people flying the original state flag. That is kind of funny to me though, since the "original" flag was only the official state flag from 1861-1865. It has just as much if not more ties to the confederacy as the battle flag portion of the current state flag.
I was born and raised in MS, and am moving back in a few months. I honestly don't know how I'd vote given the opportunity and choices presented. I have an attachment to the current flag, but I'm not decided on whether I'd support a change.

The dang SOUTH CAROLINA vote was something like 36-3 in their Senate, in other words, everyone caved. Same thing will happen here.
I hate it because it's the coolest state flag. No vote in the Senate here. Ole wolf in sheep's clothing Bentley took them all down. Apparently it was all legal

Wiki says 37% black population. Of that, probably 35% are poor and uneducated. They carry the weight (for votes) with Democrat politicians. They're mostly loud mouthed and will be carted to protest sites by politicians. The flag comes down in a matter of weeks.
I firmly believe that a double gallows should be constructed on the East Lawn of The White House. Politicians who willfully and shamelessly violate their oath to uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States of America should be swiftly tried and, upon conviction, publicly hanged at sunup the day after conviction. If multiple convicts are to be hanged they can choose with whom to share the gallows or names shall be drawn from the hangman's hat to be hanged 2 at a time.

The largest paper in the state, The Clarion Ledger, has a poll asking every congressman and senator in the state their position. They've contacted every member and have been updating the poll for the last two weeks. As of today, in the House there are 22 No votes, 31 Yes votes, and 67 No Response, Undecided, or Refusals to answer. In the Senate, there are 2 No votes, 13 Yes votes, and 37 No Response, Undecided, or Refusals to Answer. Of the 172 state congressmen polled, only 33 are on record so far in support of changing the flag. Most of the politicians aren't touching the issue and would rather people forget about it.

As long as PC police are eliminating symbols that may offend other races, then also do away with BET (Black Entertainment TV), Miss Black USA, Black History Month and Ebony Magazine.

Naw too many white folks support that..I watched the demonstrations in Carolina very closely. White People came out in droves supporting the removal of the flag. It's a dayum shame whites want stick together. But I learned a long time ago the majority of whites are only concerned with how much money they can make or what kinda car their neighbors are driving or how good looking the neighbors wife is..
