Evening all. I've seen a lot of posts recently of folks tagging some hogs. I'm new to the air force base and was under the impression that hogs were supposed to be hunted with the weapon of the current season. How are y'all running with ars? Are public lands open for hog hunting?
Sorry for the n00b questions. Have a great night.

Private and leased lands are open to any weapon. WMAs require you to hunt with weapon of season. If you get a depredation permit from the DCNR, you can pretty much kill them any way you like. LOL

LOL Rog thanks for the clarification Sir. Google tells me depredations permits are for landowners and lease holders so that's a no go for me. Guess I'll hang out till a season opens up.

It could still work for you. If the landowner gets one, they could put you on it as their agent. But, you would have to find a landowner willing.

Most national forest land is open year round. Is there somewhere that calls spells out that National Forests are year round on Hogs? I've been looking online for hours and the only confirmations I can find is bankhead and WMAs are based on other seasons. Appreciate your input fellas.

You are going to have to call the forest service office in whatever district you want to hunt to get the details. They make it hard to find the actual regs on hunting in the national forest for some reason but they go by the state seasons and hog season is open year round so in general it is open year round on national forest land. Go to the us forest service website and it has all the contact info for wherever is closest to you. Rog thanks Charlie and all. I hope to find somewhere to go within the next month or so. Thanks gents!

Forest service land is day light hours, no weapon restrictions, no bag limit.
Like Nighthunter said, several WMAs are located on FS areas, and they have special hog seasons in addition to the opportunity to kill them during other open seasons for other game species. Pay close attention to these WMA regs.

Thank you Matt. I've got emails and phone message to the Talladega rangers asking confirmation and a few other questions. I'm a bit hesitant but because I haven't found any online regs specifically calling out year round for hog. Outdooralabama says there are no closed seasons but then it goes on to say that means you can hunt private lands.

Just an fyi, Matt is a game warden/biologist for the state so you can rely on what he tells you. Still nice to have some regs in writing though. Thanks for the heads up Charlie. I did confirm with the rangers office via a phone call. They never did answer the emails I sent so I didn't get it in writing.
