I went fishing Friday, Saturday, and today. I limited (25) everyday. I fish in Slidell, Louisiana, and man it is on right now. I fish from a kayak and was done everyday by 10 am. I'm just posting this here in case someone on here likes to inshore fish and is willing to make a drive. They will probably bite good for another 2 weeks and then start moving towards the gulf.

Louisiana is truly a sportsmans paradise. I just wish the fishing licenses were half way reasonable.

Yea before I move back to bama I'm going to buy a lifetime fishing license for Louisiana so I don't have to worry about the out of state. I'm lucky cause I bought the bama hunt/fish lifetime when I was 16, because now when I go back to deer and turkey hunt in bama I don't have to worry about the out of state fees. One of the better investments I've made in my life.

That's just flat awesome. You fishing the lake? No place like SELA for inshore fishing. Grew up fishing Cocodrie...man I miss that place.

We opted to pull the boat to Steinhatchee this weekend instead of Delacroix. We caught buch of shorts, but not a keeper in the boat.

Made many a trip to Cocodrie and Golden Meadow; love the fishing and the people. No better eating fish than specks; nothing more fun to catch on light tackle than sight fished reds. Always wanted to take my Malibu kayak rig down there.

Wew3006, if you ever get a chance to come down here and fish let me know. I'm fishing about every weekend down here if it isn't deer or turkey season. May and November are your best months for trout. Redfish pretty much year round. Whenever the specks move outside where I can't get them in my kayak I will start sight fishing reds. Last year I found a place where I could launch the kayak paddle 100 yards and limit out on reds with artificials within an hour or so as long as the tide was going out. One thing I can't stand about some of the fisherman down here most fish with live shrimp all the time. I grew up crappie and bass fishing in Alabama so I've always used artificial lures. i always tell people down here live bait is for the women and children.

Whoa now, thats a big stretch. I can think of 10 inshore species that are 100X better than a squishy, wormy trout. I eat a few of them too but comon man... grin

Hell, fish sticks are better...

Life is a journey. Make sure and bring plenty of Beer.

My luck has been so bad lately, it could be raining pussies and I'd catch one with a dick broke off in it.

If they are fair to moderate quality sticks I would have to agree. rofl

Like I said I caught some last friday and put some in the freezer but when I have better options on ice they go back in the drink. I was trying to catch them Friday cause I needed some fish but otherwise if I catch a speck its by-catch and they were just faster than a flounder, sheepshead, ground mullet, mangrove, etc...that are all way better to eat.

They ARE fun though Im heading out in about an hour, boats already hooked up and may give em another go. laugh

Specks are under my light every night eating bugs that fall in the water or waiting for a glass minnow to swim by. Sometimes they scare a shrimp off the bottom, but they don't last long. I don' fish for them cause I don't like to eat them. I would much rather eat a fresh mullet.

Ground mullet man! they are better than topwater mullet and they freeze well. I take a five pound bag of Ground mullet fillets over the same lb in red snapper any day!

Ground mullet...put hand behind neck to keep it from snapping when your tongue tries to get that next bite> Sheephead you cn cook any way you want.
Speckled trout are just ok...better fresh but get stronger frozen.
Just 2 cents plus

Flounder is by far and away my favorite but I only get them in the summer and fall. Need to find somewhere to gig at night, but then I wouldn't do any other kind of fishing. Mullet in Louisiana would be terrible, water is always muddy/silty.
