Just got my first ever reloads finished. Loading 7mm-08, 43 grains of RL15, 120 grain barnes ttsx. Seated at two different depths. 2.80 coal and 2.736 coal. Gotta go shoot and see what is more accurate

Be warned you are about to go down a path from which there is no return. lol It's a good thing though.

I started reloading in the late eighties and like a bad drug habit have never been able to shake it. Put it down for awhile but always kept going back for more. Guess you could say I'm a full blown addict now as I load way more than I shoot.

I loaded some for the first time the other day for my 270. Now I'm just waiting for a chance to go see how they do in my rifle.

As you progress with your reloading process you may want to look in to = Hornady Lock-N-Load Compartor Basic Set. Comes with 6 inserts fo most popular clibers. Seating to the Ojive is MUCH more accurate that OAL measurements. Bullets will very from lot to lot and bullet to bullets . BUT your ojive measurement will always be the same thumbup

Had a buddy that helped me and we did that using his. That is where the 2.80 measurement came from. Touched the lands and backed off a bit. 2.765 was recommended coal

You didnt measure the ojive, just the OAL. Measuring the ojive is a much better method. HERE is an example. I have a custom 223 bolt action rifle. I shoot 80-Amaxs. THE ojive measurement is 2.055. THE OAL is 2.585 . You could have 2 different bullets, loaded in a caliber = 223 AND Both have a 2.585 OAL BUT have different ojives. Hornady 80-AMAXs have a .630 base to ojive as a bullet. Berger 80s have a .560 base to ojive as a bullet.

What we did was use a modified case with one of my bullets. Put it in the chamer and push the bullet until it stopped. Locked it down then measured the oal. We then backed off a few hundredths (maybe just thousandths). Then we loaded the real cartrideges to that length.

Is that not what you are talking about?

I think I understand after re reading your post. The ogive is where the bullet gets to max diameter. Some bullets get to max diameter faster and some have a little nger "nose".

That what you mean?

YES. You got it now . Say you have a 22 caliber berger. You measure it with Hornady Lock n load = 22 caliber insert. You put insert on you calipers. Calipers then measure 1.007. You zero that out to = 0 . Then you measure your bullet. A 180 Berger Hybrid has an ojive to base measurement of . 720 BUT the OAL of that bullet is 1.525 . Think of it this way = 30 caliber bullet. The OJIVE is the point that the bullet becomes .308 in diameter.

If you go with the Hornady set keep in mind if you ever measure with the Sinclair set they will be different.

It happens the first step to recovery is supposed to be admission, but I don't know what the second step is

WHY? I have Sinclair comps as well. Never noticed a difference. IF you zero out the caliper IT HAS to be the same ojive. UNLESS you are talking about the = Compensator lenght??

My bad.. I got mixed up.. The comparators are the same it's the bump gauges I was talking about.. One actually says it measures on a different area and if you have both sets you will see that difference.

Grouped pretty good. Of course, my son was the shooter, no lead sled or vice. Closest two shots were about .5 inch. Farthest two were about 1.5. Think they will work just fine
