At one time it was the easiest place in the state to hire a hit man.

Calm down blessed, they are joking around.
The guy asked about entertainment in Jasper which I am sure you will agree is lacking. It's not a bad place to live.

Zdk22 yes its by the CO-OP , if some of you dont have anything nice to say then dont I am not going to come on a message board and put your place down, there are drugs everywhere not just Jasper and the KKK crap is garbage some folks mentioned , are we perfect your dang right were not but I thank God for our creation that he supplied us with and I am proud to live here. Sharpshooter no offense but just becuase 30 years ago someone goes on the Phil Donohue show and says that means nothing look around there are folks missing all over the U.S. We work hard here and help each other as we can i grew up on a small farm and i saw my folks work day and night growing up guess what thats all i know i work 2 jobs myself my wife also works and they are alot more like us in this County i promise you this you can call us alot of things but people in Jasper arent LAZY just Blessed . I wasn't talking about Donahue. I was talking about a few fellas that someone I may have known, may have known. FACT. As far as Meth. Yeah. It's bad everywhere there are large uneducated populations living in very rural areas. I noticed you didn't disagree about Wesleys. I know it's technically not in J Town, but it's close enough. Walker Co has the most corrupt judicial system in the south also. As far as the KKK. I know nothing about that.

Does Jasper still have Mule Days? They have painted mules all over town. Mule Day is in Winfield, but Jasper does have the mule statues all over town painted up with businesses logos, etc.. I believe it was started by the Chamber of Commerce. The reason for the mules is that being historically a coal town, mules were what used to pull the coal out of the mines. As far as things to do:Food: Black Rock Bistro (best place in town but only open during the week), Los Reyes, Warehouse 319 (all 3 on the downtown square)...Johnny Brusco's Pizza (by Walmart)...Victoria's (by Tractor Supply & Marvins, a great meat & 3) Shopping: Bernard's Store for Men (downtown square, custom tailored clothing & other nice men's clothes)... Posey's Hardware (where hwy 69 & 269 meet south of town, true old hardware store, in business since 1920's and has almost anything you can imagine)... Pat's Archery & Outdoors (on hwy 78 in town, nice hunting-fishing-clothing selection) For the wife: Elizabeth Garner Interiors, Home Stuff, Nick Sanders Jewelers, Young Jewelers (all located downtown on 19th St.) Things to do outside: Fish/flyfish for rainbow trout in the Sipsey tailrace below Smith dam (Walker/Cullman county line). There are 4 free access points (AL Power) along a county road on the north side of Highway 69. Check Alabama Power website to see the turbine schedule. If the turbines are running, don't even try it (water level rises about 20 feet when they let water out) Generally the water is low in the morning and high from about 2 PM on through the afternoon..but that depends on rainfall/lake level. Stop by the Riverside Fly shop across the road on Hwy 69 though and they can give you the run down of everything and set you up with gear if you need it. Hike:...Not in Jasper but close by-Sipsey Wilderness. Multiple trailheads and multiple trails with various difficulties Golf: Horse Creek Golf Course just down Hwy 78 in Dora is a good municipal course. Musgrove CC in Jasper is great, but a private course.

Does Jasper still have Mule Days? They have painted mules all over town. Actually Jasper is a good friendly town. Just a bunch of good old miners and their families. I go over there to Court every once in a while and have always had good experiences. There was a good old fashioned hard wear store around the northern city limits, a couple of good gun and archery stores, and some tackle shops out toward Smith Lake. The Bug Tussle has been rebuilt and is a good place for a steak. There is a good fly fishing shop over by the Smith Lake dam. There used to be a place called Loony's Tavern or something like that. I would look on the Jasper Walker County web site rather than listen to these yahoos on here who don't want anyone to ever go anywhere ever. The hardware store is named Posey. A very unique place. When you walk in the old floor creaks. They have everything from a snow sled to cast iron skillets. There is a good Mexican place called Los Reyes downtown. You have the black rock bistro, and warehouse 319 which are a couple of other good places to eat downtown. The Bankhead house has different exhibits showing the history of Walker county. You can fish Smith lake. You can ride over to the town of Sipsey and fish the fork of the river. That's where the Sipsey and Mulberry come together. You can fish for trout at the pumping station below Smith dam. Lastly you can fish the warrior river. Pat's archery and outdoors has a good selection, with reasonable prices.
