I saw earlier today where Bucks Pocket had released a statement saying it would close May 1.

Those of us in the area should make it a point to be there Monday morning. I may need an Aldeer collection for bail money if I get a chance to publicly tell him what a POS he is!

IF things are this serious one would think that looking for other solutions would be at the forefront, including leasing the parks to the private sector. Instead they want to punish We the People.

And as far as Bentley himself, he may as well use the Monday meeting to declare that he's a Democrat

I firmly believe that a double gallows should be constructed on the East Lawn of The White House. Politicians who willfully and shamelessly violate their oath to uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States of America should be swiftly tried and, upon conviction, publicly hanged at sunup the day after conviction. If multiple convicts are to be hanged they can choose with whom to share the gallows or names shall be drawn from the hangman's hat to be hanged 2 at a time.

I'm not voting for any more taxes period!!! They can close them and sell them, I don't care! They (politicians) can make cuts like the rest of us!

If the State of Alabama can't manage these parks, maybe they should give them to the city or county where they are located and let them take over the management of each park. I'm pretty sure that Lake Lurleen State Park would be much better if Tuscaloosa was able to put some money into it. It's very outdated and has been for years. It could be such a great attraction year round if they'd do something with it.

Use them anyways. They were paid for with our money weren't they?

Im a police officer in rogersville and people are going crazy here over jow wheeler stae park getting shut down. When bentley came to visit last summer he said the state was going to pay to expand the lodge and build more cabins because jow wheeler and gunresville were the top 2 producing state Parks in the state. Also 100 troopers are going to lose there jobs and rumor is the marine police will be the ones to take the first wave of it. May just be a rumor, who knows.

Scare tactics.

I guess they've already blown the settlement $ from the oil spill.

He took this straight from the Obama play book on shutting down the federal parks. And the sad part I voted for him.

The state park and lodge is a touchy sore spot for my family. My great Aunt was threatened with government seizure to force her to sell her property to the state so they could build their precious lodge. She owned over 400 acres and they wanted it all. She had already promised my dad it was his when she passed. The old cabin my grandparents lived in was just short distance from the lodge.
Rant over

Living in Florida I have the pleasure of visiting the best state parks in the country here. Florida State Parks are voted #1 in the country on a regular basis. Having said that, I can't imagine losing our state parks. California had to sell theirs a few years ago due to budget shortages and it sounds like Alabama is headed down the same path. What I can't comprehend though is that Alabama has super high taxes already, much higher than Florida and other southern states and a state income tax to boot. How the heck does Alabama have such a budget shortfall as to close state parks and the Gov threatens higher taxes???? There's something in the woodpile uo there. I hope that a better solution can be found.

X2... they know people in the state care about the parks, so they target them for the "reason" to pass new taxes. I'm with others, my taxes are already high enough as it is.
