Harvest was about 43,000 in 1986 and 42,000 last year. Normal variation in the years in between, but I don't think the sky is falling myself. But all of my ideas would work to increase the turkey population. 3 bird limit would just make a few people feel better. A good day to all! I am about to take my wife shopping and buy her expensive jewelry to try to make up for my upcoming 2 week hunting trip. There is a lot more to being a turkey hunter than some of you guys understand.

That + or - is for the info that was gathered for the survey. The survey is only as good as the info given. Fact is they don't truely know.

A good day to all! I am about to take my wife shopping and buy her expensive jewelry to try to make up for my upcoming 2 week hunting trip. There is a lot more to being a turkey hunter than some of you guys understand. Wow this is the best turkey hunting tip you've posted yet!! Got off for a measley $500; she has no idea how much I'm about to spend. BC, I'm humbled you wanta be on the ticket. We are gonna bring true Hope and Change to turkey hunting. Poor N2TRKYS, he's the only forester in the state that doesn't believe in cruising timber; gotta count every tree! I don't see how he has time to hunt. Everyone else does a 5% cruise and then goes hunting.

Everyone else does a 5% cruise and then goes hunting. Don't know where you got that from. A bad cruise will yield bad results. But don't take my word for it, even the State don't use that survey as the sole data for making decisions.

Who would set out to do a bad cruise? Why not do a good one? I'm sure we have both seen large sums of money change hands based on a 5% cruise. Nobody has to believe me - read the thread in the Serious Deer forum and you will see what Dr. DitchKoff said about it. He thinks the survey Is a valid technique for determining the overall harvest, and I think he's qualified to have an opinion on it that's likely correct. Of course, science doesn't matter to a Czar; he can do whatever he wants. I just gotta get appointed.

Can't kill but 3 at my club anyway. I'm tagged out. Looking for another turkey club for next year.

Whoever said 1 bird and no shots over 25yds and spurs must be 1.25 inches. He has had some good luck with getting turkeys in very close all the time and he must have some dang good eyes if he can see every gobblers spurs and tell how long they are b4 he shoots . must be nice to have skills and eyes like that I think you missed the sarcasm bpalmer.

That seems to be the only way I could ever kill a limit. I cant seem to get past #4.. Preacher does have a point though.

In my opinion, this should have been done a long time ago. The majority of folks that hunt legally and ethically don't limit out anyway. You would be surprised to know how many folks hunt over bait and/or bushwhack turkeys! Though bushwhacking is legal, its not very ethical, in my opinion. The guys that I learned to turkey hunt from, would come unglued to find out about bait or bushwhacking. They loved the challenge and the hunt, not their ego or a hunting contest. So you are saying that for the vast majority it won't make a difference? The ones that break the law are the only ones that limit out anyways huh? Your post is dumb..... Why would a current lawbreaker not break new laws?

I agree changing the limit to 3 would have little impact. Now making decoys illegal once again would have a major impact. A lot of hunters out there that would have trouble killing a turkey w/o them.
I think the biggest reason for the decline in my area is loss of habitat with the increase in predators second. I sure see a lot more coons than I used too.
