Maybe yawl seen something i didnt, but to me it looked like the kid was throwing a tantrum or something a tried to run out the door and the dad cut himit off and slapped him. What would have been the proper way to discipline him at that point. Put him in timeoout?

My dad didn't spare the rod by any means but he never punched me or hit me in the face, and Im doing alright.

Disciplining children is much more than hitting them. I don't spare the rod, but before I use the rod I talk to my kids and explain where they went wrong. I want them to know and tell me what they did wrong. I explain why what they did was wrong and then they get the rod.

One of my children doesn't do spankings as well as the others. She responds better when you take something away. She has received her fair share of spankings but taking things away worked even better. Every child is different.

I hope you don't treat your kids like this "father" did. Your kids will grow up and want to own pit bulls and such.

I kindof agree with goodman that a slap on the face used to be common punishment for a child. it looks like he slapped that kid so fast that the kid fell down on his own. anyways I don't think it would be any reason to take the kid away from his parents and shoot the kid up with Demerol. The slap might have been a little excessive but I would think that its better than not disciplining a child.

My dad would have snatched me up by nap of my neck if I had tried to run off like that. I'm sure the ways i was punished when I was little is child abuse nowadays. I've snatched my son up by his are a time or two and wore his butt out or grabbed his arm hard enough to make him quit what he is doing. Hell that probably child abuse nowadays. But you can believe he doesn't act up anymore.
