central ala,
When, what, and how often do ya'll spray clover (crimson) through the summer to kill unwanted weeds. I don't think my clover will actually make seed because of overgrazing but just seeing what ya'll do if it does.

I wouldn't bother spraying crimson clover since it's probably going to die out by late spring or early summer anyway. Crimson is an annual not a perennial. Dixie reseeding will come back from seeds produced if it doesn't get wiped out.

Don't waste the spray, it will die in May-June, according to location. It will come back in September, from the seed, if it seeds out, which it always does, because the deer will get off of it once everything starts to green up in the woods. As vegetation goes to seed the protein levels drop, and the deer move on to different plants.

I agree with these other guys, don't bother. Crimson dies earlier than white clovers and other varieties like yuchi. Most folks that are maintaining their clover plots are specifically referencing perennial species that do not have to be replanted each year.

I mix Yuchi and Crimson and spray with Clethodim in early March to kill the volunteer ryegrass that takes them over if I don't.

But I'm mainly spraying to keep it attractive to turkeys. Otherwise, I'd let the clover fight it out with the grasses.

Try "Section" herbicide for grass; 2,4 D B for broadleaf.

I'd say it depends on what weeds and grasses you have competing with the clover that could take over and choke the clover out if you don't spray.

Clethodim and 2-4DB will take care of anything competing with the clover, crimson or other variety.

I firmly believe that a double gallows should be constructed on the East Lawn of The White House. Politicians who willfully and shamelessly violate their oath to uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States of America should be swiftly tried and, upon conviction, publicly hanged at sunup the day after conviction. If multiple convicts are to be hanged they can choose with whom to share the gallows or names shall be drawn from the hangman's hat to be hanged 2 at a time.

Do yall put the Clethodim adn the 2-4db in the tank at the same time or spray separately?

I tank mix and it seems to work fine. I do this because it is quicker. Until I can see that it's not effective I will continue to do it this way.

The mixing instructions will tell you not to mix them as it can result in reduced effectiveness. I have heard multiple reports of guys mixing them with good results. You could try it and see, but they are a bit expensive to risk them not working at full strength.

As I understand it, the 2,4-DB will reduce the effectiveness of the Clethodim by about 25%. My time and effort of making a second trip is worth more than a few extra ounces of Clethodim, so now I mix them and increase the Clethodim in the mix. The 2,4-DB is not affected by the Clethodim.

I had wondered about this for years; many thanks to 257Wthbymag for explaining it to me. Sorry I butchered your handle like that; too lazy to look it up. smile
