Just left them for Gieco on autos. Half of what I was paying SF. We will see how the service is, but the price was right.

I still have one auto I left with them to keep homeowners discounts- they do seem to be competitive on homeowners especially if you have liability umbrella and personal articles riders. My agents have been very good to work with, but I could not pass up the savings on moving the other autos. Do make sure if you have not pulled your tax records on your property to compare what they are insuring it at, you do. Cut my homeowners last year by challenging the value they had it insured for versus the lower tax value.

I'll put myself out there again....SF agent here. Are you all finding out why you received an increase? The billing statement should explain any policy changes/ premium changes. If it doesn't add up or is not clear, please call your Agent's office and ask the agent or team members to to pull up your policy and see if there are any notes, recent coverage changes, driver classification changes, or anything that looks different. If they are unable to tell from policy view they can call an underwriter and find out why there was a change. Once an answer is obtained the agent or team members can offer suggestions. It could be a simple solution with overnight processing. If you have teenage or youthful drivers a review is a must to make sure drivers and vehicles are properly assigned. Homeowners insurance increases can sometimes be due to the insurance company not having a current alarm monitoring certificate on hand, which, can easily add up to a few hundred $ annually. So, I strongly suggest finding out WHY so you and the team can determine HOW. Stickers makes a good point. Replacement cost is based on today's labor and material costs. Dwelling coverage amounts and thus premiums are adjusted to meet replacement costs, not market value. Five years ago it may have cost $100k ( coverage)to replace a loss. Today it may be $120k based on labor and material costs meaning 120% insurance to value. You have the say so, but, I try to keep most at 100% IV. Ask your SF agent about option ID-increase dwelling option. If you are insured at100%, in a complete loss the option ID provides for ( at no additional expense) an additional 20% in loss recovery. So you'd get $120k to rebuild. In this example you would pay premium for $100k coverage to get $120k in a complete loss. Which is better than paying premium 120% insurance to value. Just trying to help. I'm licensed throughout the state so I can visit, quote, help, advise any of you guys, and gals. Being "there" is what we are all about. I can't count the number of people I've been "there" for in the event of fires, tornados, hurricanes, fatal accidents, floods, you name it. Have you thought about what you would do in a complete loss? Clothes, shoes, socks belts, medicine, make up, hair dryers, curling irons, bras, pots and pans, computers, phones, turkey decoy, grunt call, etc., etc. I have. I've been " there" many times. You get a lot more than just coverage, dec pages faxed to lenders, proof of insurance faxed or emailed to the dmv and replacement cards. You get a real person that's visible throughout the community. So, call your agent. Go see them. Get their cell number or Aldeer handle. And let them tell you why and together solve for how. Not trying to be a smarty pants, but, who is your geico agent? Where does he/she live? Insurance is just a monthly bill....til you need it....and I hope you don't, but when you do who do you want to call? Or, do you know who to call? I'm here if you have any questions. Glad to help. And I won't even ask for a guest hunt!! Cheers,

I had progressive for like 8 years but my 2012 Mustang was $130/mo in January. Bought a new truck, jumped to $171 a month. Went to Alfa, new truck with same $500/500 deductibles was just under a hundred. Wound up with $100 comp/$500 collison, and added my polaris rzr for about $120 a month. Might as them for a quote.

Well you would think our homeowners in blount county would be going down as we are the worst county in the state for people being upside down in mortgages but we haven't seen any decrease

Jonesie- good post and a local agent is critical to have. I went to the local Geico office, met their local agent here and he introduced me to the admin person who handled my policy onboard. I did do the research online just to comparison shop, but agree knowing a person here local with a local telephone number matters "when you need them". I also called our local SF agent here and told them what I was doing which helped me decide what business to leave with SF. In this instance, SF got to keep the business they were most competitive on, and understood losing what they are not.

Shop your auto insurance every three years. I've done this and always found cheaper rates, for the same coverage when I did.

I was told by my State Farm agent that they have a rate increase every year no matter what. I call BS on that. I'm switching my cars & my homeowners, I can't pay these suckers at State Farm enough money. I'm done with them.

Exactly- If you aren't shopping homeowners and auto every 3 years you are literally throwing money away.

I noticed the increase also. Every year goes up. No claims ( knocking on wood) rates continue to increase.

Most people over insure and pay way too much in premiums. Just think about it. You are basically beating that you are gonna have a claim, and the insurance companies are beating that you are not gonna have a claim. If you do have a claim, they are gonna use every recourse available not to pay the claim, and then will raise your rates. Insurance companies are in the business to collect premiums not pay claims. In the long run you pay your own claims plus a profit margin to the insurance company. Save $ by getting bare bones catastrophic coverage and keep an emergency fund to pay minor claims out of pocket from your premium savings. Over the long-term you can save thousands. That's how insurance companies build big buildings and sponsor bowl games

No one ever thinks about the sheer amount of items they own until its' gone. It truly is staggering to think about having to replace even a portion of what you have to get going again.

Was surprised how much cheaper SF rates were when I moved here from Texas. I upped my coverage and still paying less than I paid in Texas.
