I am looking at purchasing one of the above combo rifle/scopes and wanted to see if anyone could provide advice as to which one.
I am a female that turkey hunts primarily but my daughters and husband deer hunt..I occassional go deer hunting and have shot a few deer using my daughters .243 featherlight winchester 70.
I don't want to put too much money in this gun as it will not be used as much but I would like to have my own instead of borrowing from others.
We hunt primary open fields and occassional wooded stands with shots usually less than 200 yards..since I don't shoot often I would not attempt a 300 plus yard shot although some fields are that long. Any advice is appreciated.

I bought the GF the Axis youth in 7mm-08.
It came with the factory no name scope for about $349. It shoots well even with the cheap scope on it and will do everything she will ever need to do.

Looks like the youth trophy hunter 7mm-08 with a nikon scope from buds guns is $465 with free shipping.

Id spend the extra and get the TH over the Axis. Better scope, better stock.

x2...You'll also get more back out of it later if you sell it due to the action being desirable for custom builds.

Ruger American is also a good choice. I got my wife a 308 for 330 bucks.

I just bought a trophy hunter 111 in .270. I love it. I think it is a little better rifle than the Axis and the package with the nikon is great. The scope is very clear and I personally am a big fan of the BDC reticle in the nikon.

Trophy hunter has an accutrigger as well. You'll have the rifle long after the money difference has been forgotten.

thanks for all the comments..I think I like the nikon name as I do photography for a side hobby and have nikon glass that has never let me down...i'm not familiar with the bdc reticle...i'm accustomed to shooting with just the cross hairs...also not familiar with the accutrigger...something i'd have to get use to....but good to know you guys like this scope laugh

ok..so I saw the gun on buds....have any of you had any bad experiences with them...i am not familiar with this company.
I saw that returns on firearms were partial as they are considered used as soon as they are delivered and transferred?
But the price is 83.00 cheaper than bass pro.

thanks

Ive bought several from buds no problems .. May take 14 days to get a long gun from them. All handguns are overnighted.

Go to the top under customer help ... then to FFL locater to find a FFL in your area.. When you pay buds for the gun you have to pick a FFL to ship it too. Your local FFL will receive it and do the back ground ck/paperwork. The ones around here charge between $10 and $25 to do that.
On the FFL finder. If you click on the ones listed, it will show ya on the right the FFLs addresss, phone, etc and what they charge to do the FFL transfer.

Even though ya pay for the FFL paperwork its still cheaper than BPS.. ya save the $83 and tax.

Didnt that Savage have the OBO/make a offer option also ?

Yes, it has the Make offer feature ... Id offer $25 less than the $467 and go from there. Ya have to be able to get it some cheaper than the listed price or they wouldnt have that option.

Buds been around long time and have good rep. I dont think you will have any problems. They usually are about the cheapest and have the free shipping offer so its hard to beat.
Let us know how it turns out and if you like the TH once you get a few rounds thru it.

Did you use the make a offer on it?

The hornady American whitetail groups good enough in all 3 of mine and its easy to find online for under $19 a box or at Academy.
I use the PPU brand for about $12~14 a box for sighting in, target practice, or hogs. Its also easy to find online or at Academy under the Monarch brand. As its just reboxed PPU.

i did try to make an offer...25, then 20 then 15 then 10 and they were all too low....
I was using the nikon spot on site for ballistic and the hornady whitetail was not listed but the hornay superformance 2950 fps was listed and seemed like a good fit...I could not find the hornady light mag 3000 fps online....midway had the superperformance for 29..it's 139 grain

The superperfomance is just a little hotter loaded with a SST bullet. Its going to shoot a tad flatter and have a little more energy at longer ranges than the Am whitetail which is a soft point interlock.

On 200 yard or less shots as you said you would be shooting either would work fine. The federal fusion falls right in between those 2 on ballistics.

Buy a box of each and see which one shoots better in your gun.

I just got a gun through buds two weeks ago. No complaints except for the fact that the gun made it to the FFL before I even received the tracking info. But gun came in fast and in great shape. I paid a few extra for the insurance on lost or stolen.

glad I purchased when I did...the price went up 18.00 the very next day....it didn't say it was on sale..thought that was odd...no wonder they didn't except my make an offer.LOL
