I've seen a lot of high end scopes marked up or even creased by the Talley vertical split rings. Possibly someone torqued them too tight. Use the correct torque on any rings but I think the Talleys can do a number on a scope if over torqued.

I like Nightforce. Rings and Base. Picatinny is the only way I will go UNLESS I personal lap the rings, then it doesnt matter. EGW picatinny base and TPS rings are a good comb, and can be had for under 100 dollars for those that are budget minded! thumbup

Talley rings are best in my book. They're expensive for a reason. Those things are rock solid.

As for bases, fewer parts are better, starting with zero. My favorite system is Talley rings on a Picatinny or Weaver rail that is integral to the rifle, or model-specific Talley ringmounts onto a rifle's proprietary rail. Next best is a Talley Picatinny base that screws securely onto the rifle paired with Talley rings.

Don't buy any damned two piece base systems from other companies. Why introduce another source of working loose or misalignment into the system?

Bingo. Redfield / Leupold is not a good mounting system.

rofl

1,000's of rifles wear Leupold Rings and have for what? since the 1970's? They are not my first choice, but they work just fine.

Not sure why so many people have problems with their scope mounts. I have never had a complete failure in a mounting system... I guess ever. Only problems I have ever had were screws that were too long that I can remember.

My only 2 pieces of advice for this thread are:

1) If you are going to be jumping out of a Helicopter with your rifle get the appropriate rings/mounts.

2) If you cannot properly mount a scope.. I guess get someone who knows what they are doing to mount it for you.

I guess I should have clarified I was referring to the two piece dove tail base mounts only. They were originally designed by and referred to as Redfield / Leupold bases but other manufacturers make this style mounts also , these days. I returned your pm, btw.

Decided to go with the one piece dnz mount and rings. Looks like a really sturdy system with less things to possibly loosen or move if bumped. And after seeing Jmalone pic im not concerned with the look or the possibility of them being in the way over the bolt. Thanks guys

DNZ is a great set up. I have switched most of mine to egw picatinny bases and I use weaver grand slam lever-lock rings now. The rings are heavy but they are rock solid and I can easily remove and remount my scope with no loss of zero.

Look at the DNZ Nevel tool too, I have one and it works great for aligning a BDC scope perfectly with the bore.
