(I have heard rumors that some processors sell unclaimed meat at the end of the season. Any truth to that, or am I just one of those suspicious bastages ? )

Papa, I don't know who you called, but it wasn't the chopping block. All the coolers were empty at the end of the night on Friday feb. 13th. Only thing hanging in their cooler is a huge bison they are cutting. Last day to pick up processed meat is this Sat. Feb 21st before 9pm.

It makes no never mind to me as I have nothing to do with the processing side of things but my shop (taxidermy) is at the same location.

Nope, I called the chopping block. Man who answered said they were still working on mid-december deer, and if I had not been contacted by telephone my deer was not ready, and I would be called when it was ready. I will call again today, since I have not heard from them.
Thanks for telling me about the deadline. I either spoke with someone who was not very happy ( he dang sure didn't sound very happy ) or someone who didn't know what they were talking about.

BTW, you have done some taxidermy work for me in the past, and you did an excellent job.

I shot a deer on December 7, and they had it done within two weeks. They gave me some pretty decent cuts, I was a little surprised when they asked me what I wanted to do with any of the leftover trimmings...I told him I wanted some jerky and smoked sausage, and I wound up with about 30 pounds of smoked sausage and 3lbs of jerky. I didn't complain. Everything was well packaged and tasted fine. Shot my last deer on January 27, and I called yesterday and they said it will be middle of next week. The day I dropped off my deer it lookes like they had about 10 other deer dropped off, so I understand they get busy towards the end of the year.
The one I shot in December was just a spike, but when I went to pick up my dear I has to what they do with the antlers, and had to look for them. They did find them, but that would really irritate the crap out of me if I run into the same problem with the deer that I dropped off on January 26. It was in 8 point, and my biggest deer yet, and I asked him to cape it out for me because I'm going to get it mounted. Hopefully there aren't any screw ups.

They are a small shop, and I think maybe they got a little overwhelmed this season.

I've taken two deer to trading post in Pell city, and while they were timely and polite, it seems like I didn't get much meat at all. I don't know if there was a lot of waste or what, but I usually wind up with twice as much meat from any deer I've shot, with the exception of the two I took from there.

Got screwed. Called and said their freezer broke. From what I'm hearing from other folks I think it I'm being told a story.

30 days is too long to hang deer to age em.....10-14 is more than enough.

I've spent most of the money I've made in my lifetime on hunting and fishing. The rest I just wasted.....

I love the rut. The woods are like a bunch of roided up meatheads fighting over a girl.

The woman there said that they weren't open on Wed because of the weather, and that it must have broke between when they left on tues and came back on Thursday. She said all the meat they had already processed in that freezer began to thaw, and they couldn't take a chance on giving it to the customer. She was very nice and apologetic. No way to know if it's the truth, but they were very nice about it. What can I do. At least I got my head back and I'm taking it up to the taxidermist today.
