Just use 2 3/4 on a plain ole full choke barrel to kill turkeys? Think I may break out the 1100 on one like this. It don't have a gobbler notch under its belt.. It'll do the trick at 35 yards with 1 1/5 oz #5 shot.. Got some old Winchester Westerns..

As long as you keep shots to about 30, and know the pattern I think you'd be fine.

I kilt plenty with an 1100 with a modified choke. Finally put a poly choke on it to try to get better patterns. It helped a little, but it never was a really good turkey gun. I finally got enough money together to move up in the world to an 11-87 with a 3" chamber and screw in chokes.
You can kill a turkey with any shotgun using any load; just gotta know the limit of your range.

guy I work with has always turkey hunted with a fixed barrel gun and 2.75 heavy dove loads. granted, I think he keeps shots to 20ish (30 at most). and he's a younger guy too (usually it's the "old timers" that you'd expect to go old school)
another coworker (BamaGuitarDude) just bought an 870 turkey gun and shot some Remington Heavy Dove through the factory turkey choke just to make sure the sights were on, and at 20yds it threw a fantastic pattern. at some point you have to ask "Just how much more dead can a turkey get?"

I shot a 2 3/4 870 for many years, killed the snot out of turkeys to about 35 yards, tried not to shoot 40, but it killed a couple of three that far. It did have a custom screw in choke, first turkey gun with one in the US, and it was spray painted camo.

Of course, with all that said, I'll be sporting a Tightwad .660 and Longbeards and/or Hevi's..........I don't just wanna kill 'em, I wanna blow his beak clean off his head

I killed a BUNCH of gobblers with a 2 3/4" Remington 1100 with a Hastings .660 choke shooting copper plated Winchester #6's. I killed them to 50 yards with it no problem. I would still be using it today if some sorry SOB wouldn't have stolen it.

Back in the day that's all we had. Killed quite a few with a Remington 11-48 16 ga. full choke. Win. 37 12 ga. full choke, and an 1100 with a Modified. 2 3/4" high brass #4' or 6's mostly, and they were paper shells. I still see a couple a year fall to a 2 3/4" fixed choke but not paper shells. It did have a custom screw in choke, first turkey gun with one in the US, and it was spray painted camo. The first in the US. Really? Now that would be a neat bit of history to be able to lay claim to.
