Check out Nikon Coyote 4.5-14x40 or 3-9x40 on the lower end, or you may get find the Leupold VX3 3.5-10 or 4.5-14, used, in that range. I don't find any need for more than 8x, on my non-varmint rigs, and run .308s to 600 & 1000, with no more than 10x, in most cases. Deer and hogs at 300 & further, is no problem at 6x. It is easier to judge deer at higher mag, but I like to do that with binos/spotters, IF time allows.

looking for something that is a good scope/clarity with about 42-44mm and up to 12 or 14 zoom.....looking to spend around 300.00 or so..give or take. I heard leopold had some and vortex along with nikon and refield Nikon Buckmaster 4-14x40 with side focus. I'll take $275. I bought it new several years ago and it's been on my 300wm. Thinking about upgrading.
