I have a new Shimano 200 baitcaster my wife surprised me with a few months ago & need to mount it on a rod. I'm thinking a 6'9"-7' med heavy for bass in general. It will be used for top water, heavy plastics & such. Whats out there?

In the $100 range I don't think you can beat the 13 Fishing Omen.

Hammers are great but a little more expensive. I bought a Powell Im looking forward to trying out.

I would go with a Powell. I have pretty much converted over to all Powells and love them. I have the Inferno and Max 3D and really like them both. For what your wanting I would look at a Max 3D 714. It is 7'1 and a 4 power which is pretty much a medium heavy. I use it for throwing frogs, swim baits and football jigs. The only thing is it will be about $160 new for the Max 3D but for around $100 the Inferno series would be better suited and is still a really good rod. Tackle Warehouse had one or both of those marked down close to $100 back near Christmas. I suspect they still do if they aren't sold out.

Me either. My dad uses them sometimes and I think he has broke 2 or 3 of them setting the hook and it wasn't from having the drag tightened down too tight. I've heard a few folks say that has happened to them with the veritas. Guess I got a good batch bc never had any problems at all.

It seems that way to me too because I got a 7 foot heavy action that I've thrown frogs and swimbaits with and have never broke it and I've set the hook pretty hard with 65 pound braid with frogs. Most of my rods came from the swap & sell forum of bass boat central. I've found some really good deals on rods there. Sometimes you can find people that are selling rods still in the package with the tags on them for a really good price and others take them out 1 time fishing and realize they don't like them and sell them.

No Duckett love in here. There are white rods on every boat i see at the tournaments lol I don't like the colored rods. There are several good quality rods that I won't buy because I don't like the "white" rods. I never would buy a Carrot Stix for the same reason. I bought a Powell spinning rod this past Summer and the bottom 12" or so of the butt is blue...it's an awesome rod, but I hate the look of it..LOL
