Went to look at a ATV today guy told me he purchased brand new 8 or 9 years ago (said this several times) said it was in excellent condition. Told me countless "times once you see it you are going to want it". He did everything he could to assure me it was in awesome shape. He actually said it looked like it came off the showroom floor. I'm thinking great so I go get the money, take off early to go get it, so many things I had to move around to get over and see it. BUT its not 8 or 9 years old its 20 years old and sounds terrible and looks pretty rough but just to humor myself I ran the VIN and he was not even the original purchaser. Needless to say I walked away pissed that he wasted so much off my time and cost me hours at work. And I can only think he assumed I was a DA. RANT OVER.

How'd you run the VIN on site? Just curious because knowing how would be a great tool when shopping for stuff like that.

Iphone: Google: It took maybe 1 minute to find the site.

Told me model year where it was purchased who purchased it and what day they got it and when the warranty ran out.

That pretty much sums up my experience looking at used four wheelers.

Ended up buying new.

I understand the being upset that it wasn't in the condition he claimed it to be, but did he not advertise what year model the machine really was?? If so would the fact that he said it was bout new 8 or 9 years ago raise a red flag??

I drove from Tuscalloosa to Athens one day to trade a Mini 30 & a 1022 for a Rencon. Pics looked great and the guy told me it was solid. As soon as he pulls up I knew it was a POS. He actually thought it would persuade me to go along with the deal by telling me he was giving 2 box fulls of extra parts for it as his uncle had just rebuilt the motor and had parts left over. Like You I left work and wasted 4hrs of my time. I was super pissed.

He didn't advertise the year i asked him the year over the phone and it did raise a red flag that he didn't know exactly but I thought worst cast it was 10 years old maybe 11 not 20. I usually do not trust people I don't know but I honestly thought Who would lie about year model that's too easy to find out. My main concern going over there was it wasn't the condition he said it was. I really never doubted year model.

I met a guy one time who advertised some Buckshots for sale on the bulletin board. $100. I called him and he said they had over half the tread left, looked new, etc. I met him halfway. He was some old geezer with a set of worn out buckshots that had about 1/32 in most spots and almost had cord showing in others. I told him that wasn't what he told me he had and I wasn't buying them. He got pissed, said I wasted his time and gas and got in the truck and left after a few explexatives. I told him tough chit, don't lie about what your selling, and I wasted my time and gas too!
