My mom had a couple of squirrels in her attic. She bought a live release trap and I put it on the roof. We caught one of them right away. We reset it and after a couple of weeks, the second one still refuses to go in there. I guess he saw his buddy and wised up. Anyone got any other ideas? I thought about rat poison, but I don't want it to die in the attic. If I could be over there and catch him in the yard I would shoot him, but no luck.

Live electrical wire, stripped to the copper at one end, slathered in peanut butter, seeds and sunflowers...sitting on a steel plate.

I love roasted skwirls!

I would opt for the pellet rifle treatment. Worst thing you can do is let them die in the attic. Figure out where they are getting in and block it. Reduce the population. My uncle had this happen and he went to war on the little bastards. They won't come anywhere near his yard for fear of the Benjamin 22 .

What are you putting in the trap for bait?

Get an old style wooden RAT TRAP, not a mouse trap. Bore a small hole in it to tack it to the joists so it can't be dragged. Set the trigger so that it is heavy, that is, it takes a little more force to spring it. This is important or a squirrel will trip it as soon as he touches it. You want him digging at the trigger. Bait it with a LOT of chunky peanut butter and even add more peanuts to it. I kill squirrels on trees and on the outside fence all the time like that.

Find and fix that entrance.

Wow! That's harsh! Very efficient to kill it and cook it at the same time.

I used peanut butter and pecans.

I had thought of this, but not nailing it down. This may be the way to go.

Koro traps! You can order them from Wildlife Control Services.

A big rat trap will probably get the job done slowly 50% of the time. A Koro will kill fast and if it happens to be a non lethal catch the squirrel will still be there.

I'd post some pics of them if Photobucket would allow me this morning.

You definitely want to seal up there entry points after you catch them or others will move in.

Move!!! Tried it all. Me and the neighbors killed over 75 last year with pellet guns but they continue to come back.
