I'm just going through my checklist of prepping for some of my public land hunts this year, and wanted to get input on some possible novel or original ideas that some of you have for hauling gear in and out, along with a deer if you are successful? I have a game cart that I haven't tried using as a hauler for all my junk, but it seems like it could work. Some of my walks will be about a mile in or more.

I don't carry much,just a sandwich,drink compass,emergency survival blanket,fire starting stuff,light and extra batteries. I like a small fanny pack.

I've been toying with an idea of getting a scrap piece of high quality Vinyl-linoleum and adding some grommets to tie a deer on and a pull rope. It would make a drag easier but still not as easy as a cart.

If it doesn't fit in my backpack it doesn't go. I tie my backpack to my climber.

at that point, tie your kit to the climber, and then with your hands maneuver your transport method. Ditch the bag and any additional unneeded weight. I use a sled, but in most cases I'm close enough to just walk back to the truck and deposit any gear, grab the sled and go. Realistically you could drag the sled IN with you, but in the dark, it'd be pretty noisy, but it would be a different sound vs a crunch crunch of feet walking. A small sled would be light enough to get carried, but that'd probably get old.

Something like this: https://www.amazon.com/Unknown-27375-Dead-Sled/dp/B000V6NAIC is probably light enough to get strapped to your climber, and left at the bottom of the tree.

Your probably stuck going with some sort of trial and error to really find what works for you.

I strap my backpack onto the climber. whenever I lay my gear out there's a multitude of stuff I COULD take, but my hunts seem to go better the lighter I travel. plus I lose less stuff. For gun hunts I don't even use a stand anymore.

I do a back pack hooked to summit climber. I bring a ton of water, map, gps, compass, fire starter, and lots of snacks like fruit, beanie Winnies and vienna sausage n saltines, little debbies. I stay from light til dark though. Everytime. I wont go if i cant stay all day. I hunt by myself too. No one to start that, i wanna go home mess.

Ive got a mountain bike and a converted pull behind bike stroller. Cut all the baby haulin junk off an laid a piece of aluminum down on it. Hooks up to the back of yhe bike an i pull it like a luttle trailor. Works good on flat land an i mean real good have hauled some does an a few pigs out on it plus stand and gear. Only use this thing if ive got to go alooooong way on levys and such an some places in south AL. NO good for north bama

When I use to walk in hunt I would use a pack frame. A Loc-On, screw in steps and regular size daypack with whatever I needed. If you can't make it a few miles with that load I'd suggest getting into shape. The load was much less than what you would take hiking. Stand only weighed 7.5 lbs.

Put the Loc-on on the pack frame shelf. Put the pack over the stand and shoulder straps around the top of pack frame. 2 Ratchet straps for a permanent hold.

If I shot a deer I would cut it up and haul it out. I decided that was the way to go after dragging a couple deer so far I wore the hide completely off one side. And then still had to butcher it when I got it home. Much easier to just cut it up in the woods. Also great practice for hunting out west.

No government employees were harmed in the making of this mess.
