I bow killed a gobbler with a stone point to the neck at six feet one time, from a Double Bull blind.
Killed a gobbler with a Heavy Duck Model 12 once at three feet, shot a hole thru his neck with meat and skin on both sides. On Miss Olivia Martins place on Pine Barren Creek known as the Gene Watts place.
I've spent most of the money I've made in my lifetime on hunting and fishing. The rest I just wasted.....

I shot a buck from a chair blind at 7 yds a few years back. He never paid any attention to me at all.
I once had a gobbler get behind a downed tree and all I could see was his feet as he came walking to me. He was gonna step into view at 4 yda, so I had the gun aimed right at the spot and intended to shoot him at the base of the neck. He appeared, I shot, and he went to flopping. Then he was suddenly flying away and I killed him with the third shot.
The first shot had grazed the base of his neck down to the bone, but I think he would have survived. Second shot took out a plug of feathers and skin just below his beard. Not much room for error at that range.
All the labor of man is for his mouth, and yet the appetite is not filled.

I walked to my stand late in the AM (a little too much fun the night before). Any way, I stepped into the top of this little hollow and started crunching leaves. Deer went everywhere! Since the sound was echoing around the hollow and I instantly knelt down, I guess they didn't know what was going on because they were running in every direction.
A large doe came right at me. I could almost touch her with the end of my barrel at the shot. I had to jump and move as she plowed right through where I had been kneeling. Shot that doe in self-defense.

Shot a gobbler at 5 yards due to a large fallen tree, stuck his head up on the other side and off it went.

Shot a solid 9 pt at about 3-4 ft. Had climbed a really small tree (only one in the right spot) and could only get up about 9-10 ft. Deer walked directly underneath me. He was watching 2 does out in front of me. Once his head got past the tree, I leaned over the side of the stand and shot him straight down between the shoulders. Barrel couldnt have been more than 3-4 foot off his back when I pulled the trigger.

He was so close I didnt even get him in scope, I just aimed down the end of the barrel.

2009 mzl at 8 yards. Pretty much straight down. 115" 7pt
I was standing on the top rung of the ladder fixing to climb down.
I'm pretty sure that's my shortest shot even with a bow.

Once shot a buck that I had to jump over at the base of my tree when I climbed down. He followed the doe in heat on my boots. Shot him straight down between the front shoulders. Never twitched and he dropped straight down. From my perspective in the tree it looked like he was still standing. Of course I was 50 feet up the tree.

I was sitting on a powerline the last Saturday in January before we could hunt til February 10th. I'm in a tripod stand and can see for several hundred yard both left and right. I hear a noise across the way in the woods that sounds like someone dragging old roofing tin out of the woods. It was very loud and I never heard this noise before hunting. All of a sudden a doe comes out of the woods across the powerline and walk under the tripod. Then hear comes a small buck limping across the powerline right under my stand. At this point I haven't put it all together yet until this 8 point comes across from the same direction and is headed right for my stand. He never looks up and has his eyes locked on the direction the other deer were headed. I couldn't stop him so I shot him 3 yards away still walking. It was a 3 yard shot because the tripod was 10 feet from my seat to the ground. He was directly under the stand when I shot him.

Was easing aroung a fairly rough, cain infested mountain bench one morning. Wind was blowing 25-30 and it was really cold. Had the wind in my face as I stepped along the rim. Suddanly a doe blew out from under a rock and headed away from me. Split second later a buck jumps up and almost takes me out. I shot him from the hip at about 5 feet. Had double drop tines and is on my wall today. 25 years ago.

Sit beside a big white oak that had blew down. A coyote walked into the top of the tree and I couldn't hardly see him. He jumped on top of the log and came trotting down it. Barrel was almost touching him when I shot. He took off running down the side of the mountain dragging guts behind him. Never went and looked for him.

I was like 7 or 8 and was squirrel hunting with single shot 20-gauge by myself. Shot at a squirrel in tree. Hit it but didn't kill it. It flopped out af my feet but was still trying to go. I shot it again. Man, you talk about ugly. It was a hole the size of your fist through a squirrel with a little skin on either side holding it together. Dad came down the hollow to where I was. He was not impressed with what his firstborn had done. Coached me up a little on proper shooting distance for a shotgun
“Killing tomorrow’s trophies today.”
On the distance I like to walk to my stands: “The first 100 yards is also the last 100 yards.”
