So if I stick a deer and it runs over property line onto private land I'm out of luck ?

I don't want to pass quietly into the night. I want to slide in sideways kickin and screamin

In a word, yes. You'd have to get landowner permission.

No you are not out of luck and yes, just ask the neighbor for permission to track. Rarely will a neighbor say no.

There was just one of the TV hunting shows a couple of weeks ago aired with the guy sticking a nice buck and trailing it to the adjoining property.
They went to the landowners house (cameraman filming from the truck the whole time) explained what happened, politely asked the old codger if they could come track it. Nope he said and told em to leave closing the door.
Called GW and he told em it's a loss.

Myself, depending on the location/neighbors would probably go look for it.

Retired GW told a buddy of mine if he ever had to go look for one to take no guns and not wear "hunting type" clothing.

Same thing happened to a buddy of mine in Kansas. Arrowed a nice buck, crossed over onto another property. Owner told him No. He came home empty handed.

My luck has been so bad lately, it could be raining pussies and I'd catch one with a dick broke off in it.

I'll tell you one thing I'm not gonna do is kill an animal and let it go to waste. Don't care if I get prosecuted or not. I couldn't stomach not doing everything I could do to recover my game . That's just me though...

Depending on the deer and circumstance laws are made to be broken.

I can tell you the line you are wanting to cross to get a deer won't happen. I hate to see one go to waste to but you can take my word on it.

if it was a really nice deer and i was not giving permission to get it , i'd call the law . by court cases i've read it's your deer when you put a lethal shot on it . the deer belongs to you and you then have property on anothers land . but a bunch of bs but i "think" if the deer was worth the trouble you could get it .
