Even with fog, and overcast conditions most of the day, we still managed to have some good success today.

We started off at a roost early, and i really had nothing close to meat any point, but my buddy was able to get in front of a big flock and managed this nice 3yr old at about 45 yards.

After we killed that bird, the fog set in really heavy, couldnt see 50 yards. So we came back to town, ate some breakfast and waited til it lifted. About 11 we started cruising the roads and seen a gobbler in a field with about 5 hens. It set up perfect for a fanning scenario, so i grabbed a fan and made my way to nearby shelter belt. I eased out about 50 yards into this field before this old gobbler saw me. The hens had apparently saw me first because they came in a hurry and were 35 yards in no time, and he wasnt having any of that. He came a running and i let him get to about 40 and let the TSS Fly but somehow i clean missed him, but rolled him at 45-50 yards on the follow up shot.

Another solid 3 yr old with a long thick beard.

We rode and checked a few more places, and wound up finding 2 birds in a meadow with some cedar trees interspersed. We used the trees to close to within about 100 yards. Then setup kinda behind this big dirt bank.. We could see the birds struttin back and forth in the gaps. So i started gettin a little aggressive with my calling and we could see the birds were answering everytime i touched a call, but the wind was blowing so hard at our back we couldn't hear them. Finally some hens appear, & the boss hen went into FULL strut. She did not like us. Lol It took them about 20 mins to close the distance to about 25 yards, with her leading the way, and me my buddy let the shot fly. Both 2 yr olds, but with solid beards.

Its been a good day in Texas! Bout to shower, eat, and watch it rain. Lord willing tomorrow will bring more turkeys!

Turkeys be damned.
