I don't know what that is but I'm sure someone will. Mind if I piggyback a question in your thread? Are there still black racers around? Is that their name/real name?

Yes there are still black racers around I've seen two this year.
Would walk over a naked woman to get to a gobblin turkey!

That's a black pine snake. PROTECTED BY STATE LAW. Do not kill it. It's a candidate species for federal listing as well.

Top cat, this and black racers are two different snakes altogether. Black pines have a very small limited range in southwest AL and southeast MS.

Always called them black race'ers x2 Anybody north of Washington and Clarke counties or east of Baldwin has never seen one of these in the wild. Racers are statewide. They are very common. These are not.

I'm no snakeologist but how in the world did you guys come up with a positive ID with the snake so far away in the picture.
Not doubting your ID, just wondering what markings, etc showed it from that far away.

Not doubting your ID, just wondering what markings, etc showed it from that far away. Large snake with the banding pattern on the sides, but most importantly is the location.
