I have a Minn Kota hand control because I am in the same situation you are (not a lot of room up front). Also, I use the boat for hunting, and I find that a hand control is easier to use when picking up decoys. I really like it. The only thing I need to get is a handle extension, because I do have to bend over when standing on the front. With the extension I can angle the handle up and be good. This is the one I have, and it pushes my 17ft tracker really good. http://www.academy.com/shop/pdp/minn-kot...457?N=927857488

Hand control bow mount is the way to go. My experience has been that you need to go with the saltwater models if you can spend the extra money.
We will burn that bridge when we get there
