Well first off I shot the last magnum blend I had Tuesday morning and didnt want to shoot lead so I borrowed one from my cousin and he said it was gonna be a lucky shell,he was right.I go to a place were they heard some birds yesterday morning and one answers right at daylight,I start walking and think he is at a big foodplot we have so when I get close I owl and one answers on down the creek a ways,I knew that wasnt the bird I heard the first time but I head his way,I get to the other end of the big patch and owl again and the first bird I heard answers me on the creek about 100 yards away.I ease into the woods and get set up on the edge of a slough and give a soft yelp and he hammers back,I decide to get a little closer where I can shoot across the slough if I need to,I yelp again and while I was moving the bird had flown down and is right across the creek,he gobbles and drums and hes close enough to shoot but I cant see him because of the thick bamboo and a blown down tree, about that time a hen starts cutting up and she is in a tree not 30 yards from me,I dont know how I didnt scare her of the roost, anyway when I yelp she cuts me off and is getting pissed,I knew that the gobbler wasnt coming back across the creek so I wait for her to fly down, sure nuff she pitches right out to him,I can tell they have moved up the creek a little so I make my move and crawl up to the blown down tree,I can hear the bird drumming but he is under a dip and I cant see him, while this is happening I can hear the other bird down the creek gobble every once in a while.Well its been a while and the only chance I have is to cross the creek or hope they come back to the creekbank,I give a yelp to see where the bird is so I can make my move if I need to and he answers and so does the one down the creek,I can tell the one down the creek has gotten a lot closer so I give a few cuts to try to get them fired up,a few minuts pass and I can barely hear drumming so I decide to cross the creek and hope the bird would come back,I get across and get sat down and hear drumming to my right,I yelp and the bird from down the creek gobbles and is within 100 yards,I look and see 2 birds in a steady walk so I get turned and ready, they get behind some thick stuff and I know they are gonn walk right down the side of the creek so I scoot over to the next tree and get ready,a crow hollers and they answer,i catch a glimpse of them and a few seconds later they are 50 yards from me up on a little high spot, the first bird has a long thick beard and looks pretty big so I decide thats the one I want, they walk up just shy of my opening and stop to look, the back bird puffs up a little and the other is behind a tree, I give a soft 3 note yelp to let them know where I am,the first bird starts walking and gets to the opening but I cant get him to stop, the next walks through and I yelp and he stops right on the edge so I knew I had to take the shot now because there was no shot if he got past there,he stretches up and I let the Mag Blends eat, ended up being about 45 steps, those shells aint no joke on one,he ended up being a 3 year old, small bird only weighing 15lbs 3 oz with 9 1/4" beard and 7/8" spurs,to top it off my cousin killed a nice double beard too, thats the 2nd multibeard off our place this week.
