Greed will get you every time. Congrats! On a side note, not long ago our preacher preached on "Breaking the Spirit of Asherah." Basically the point was not to follow animalistic desires when it comes to lust, because we are not animals. If we act like one, we will end up like one. As hunters, we're most successful when animals are following their feelings. I thought it was a good analogy that I could relate to.

They probably saw that blued gun that I'm using because Hal shamed me for considering getting it camo-dipped, so all this is really his fault. Sorry I missed out on this thread the first day. But I suspect it was rejecting the offering of that bird in the tree right over y'all's heads. I won't reject any offerings anymore after learning my lesson the heard way a few years back. But congrats on breaking the jinx. I think you must have been just given a warning on the rejection, instead of a full-blown, bad ju-ju sho'nuff jinx. Tread carefully.... and I'm glad you didn't ruin that gun with camo....

Tread carefully.... and I'm glad you didn't ruin that gun with camo.... Thanks Hal! I really do hate to ruin the looks of the little Spanish lady by giving her a camo dip. I spent a lot of time removing that awful poly finish that Julio put on her in 1978, and I then rubbed her with tru oil and made her into a nice looking gun. But you might have noticed in the pic that I put the toy gun away and brought out the turkey cannon to end the jinx. There never would have been a jinx if I'd been using it opening morning; it would have shot between then saplings instead of trying to go thru one. So I learned a valuable lesson - use the turkey cannon until I have killed a few. Use toy guns only later in the season.

Yessir. Keep the toys put up until the big girls have had their breakfast....
Had a patch of rough luck that was bordering on a jinx last week....momentarily thought about switching guns to cure it. Luckily, I didn't lose my absolute mind and kept the big gun out.
Big gun = dead turkeys. It is that simple.

Wow Hal! I don't know how you killed the turkey after putting that many shot into saplings. My sapling looked like that but the turkey just walked away. Not the first sapling I've nailed, but I hope the last. The fact that the barrels are not on the line of sight on a sxs is a bigger issue than I realized it would be. Since the foul-up, I've been more conscious of it, and I've been in several situations where it could have easily happened again. Got to be really aware of it when I use a sxs. Of course, got to be aware that the barrel is below the sight on the SBE. I once finished killing a cedar tree that I had pushed over with the dozer the fall before when shooting at a gobbler. It was about 3' in front of my barrel and absorbed the whole load. The red dot was right on the turkey; the barrel was right on the cedar. That turkey just walked off too.
My turkey I killed was 39 yds, so I'm sure the little gun would have killed him. Not ready to switch back yet.
