I know what brought it on. Opening morning I had 4 gobblers roosted; knew right where they were and right where they would go. I carried Surefire with me and planned on starting the season with a double. Slipped into place in the darkness and got set up just right; main gobbling turkeys about 100 yds away. I started hearing drumming and then they started gobbling. I looked up and there was a longbeard just over our head. Surefire has only been turkey hunting a few times and killed his first last season. This one was a Gift. I shoulda told him to blast him out, but I played the sportsman and waited for them to fly down. So they fly down and I give one soft yelp, and here they all come. Except at 45 yds one of them spots us and starts bobbing his head and is about to putt so I give the signal and we both miss. They probably saw that blued gun that I'm using because Hal shamed me for considering getting it camo-dipped, so all this is really his fault. I had a small opening between 2 saplings, but the dot was right on the gobbler. Only trouble was, the left barrel of the sxs was right on a sapling. Looks like I woulda thought of that. Surefire got feathers on his, but mine just walked off. Since then, there has been 3 of them together every morning. They are the only 3 gobblers for miles. They ignore my calling, and now demand the hens come to them, which they do. But I have successfully figured out exactly where they were headed at least 5 different times, and every time I got there one minute too late. Happened twice this morning. I coulda shot one at 60, but wouldn't risk it with the 20. One more day with the 20, and then SBE comes out of the case. I'm not sure how to break this jinx. They have eluded me too many times for it to be just bad breaks, or even incompetence. I'm always one minute late. Troy, you ain't got my name on that doll, have you? I suspect I gotta shoot one out of a tree to break the jinx. The bright moon is making it tough to get under them. Glad to see so many of you guys having good seasons! Good hunting to all!

Best way to get over this mess is stop talking about it, get out there, and shoot the face off one anyway you can.

This must be a pretty bad jinx preacher, It's got me as well . It probably started after I shot my first one last year. I remember saying "well that wasn't as hard as I thought it was going to be" after I shot him . That's gotta be the source!

If anyone can break a bad jinx it is a poor country preacher. You know what to do!

Good luck on breaking the jinx! I feel like offering up my first turkey to a friend that has never killed one has left me with negative juju. That's the opposite of what should happen!

Go kill the dam turkey - sure fire way to break a jinx! He's still dead, or I would sure be after him. Hunted the same 3 gobblers again this morning; they had 5 hens with them and I had no chance to get them away. It looks like I would give up and go try to find another turkey, but its become something of a quest to kill one of these. Could have taken a long shot again, with the SBE this time, but it was just a shade too far to be 100% certain. Surefire will probably get one of them in the morning and then maybe the group will bust up. Congrats to all who are killing turkeys! Not sure if we just have a lot more members or what, but I can't remember ever seeing so many kills posted. I haven't had time to read the stories, but just looking at the headlines tells me there have been a bunch killed already. Good hunting to all!
