I'm not partial to either one. Been looking at both. I had an old ceramic grill a knock off brand that was given to me. The inner core cracked and on its last leg. Still cooks OK, but would like to get a new one. Is one better than the other or the same?

The Kamado is the same guy that made they BGE. I've had the Kamado ever since it was not cool about 5 years. My firebox cracked after 2 years they sent me a new one free. I went with the KJ because the price of it was the same as a med BGE and it came with a stand.

They will - for 20 years... All of the ceramic grill inserts will crack after a few hot burns. And Primo will replace the liner when it does, but it is not unusable - just put a piece of charcoal behind the pieces to hold them together and Q on!

I have a Kamado Joe. Was MUCH cheaper than the Egg. About 65% cost of Egg. I bought the KJ and all accessories for less than I would have spent for a bare Egg.

AND I LOVE MY KJ GRILL!!!!!

Where can I get one of these $300 Kamado Joe Grills? I knew they were a little less but I didn't know they were giving them away.

If you shop around you should be able to get a KJ Classic, deflector and extended rack for <$800 out the door.

you didnt ask but Ill throw it out there.... Dont rule out the Chargriller Akorn. After reading great reviews on the BBQ forums from owners that own some of the higher end smokers I gave it a shot and couldnt be happier. I smoked a lot of meat before owning it and love everything about it.

I built a table for it and for 300.00 its a smoking deal (pun intended).

I have an KJ, but have cooked on both. You can't go wrong with either. My wife bought me the KJ. She shopped around and I think the KJ was a little bit cheaper, but I think it really came down to customer service at the place she bought it.

My Primo fire box has cracked twice but it was my fault. I used a propane torch to start the fires putting too much heat on one spot. I switched to an electric starter ($10 @ Wmart)& the newest one is fine (2 years). Lifetime warranty, free replacement.
