Most truck stops know where you can get it done localy, If you get an swr meter, set it to ref, key the mike and set the reference mark, set it to fwd key the mike again. Your measuring reflected power vs fwd power, you wan't SWR's below 1.5. Use the allen wrench and slightly raise or lower your antenna to adjust.
If you can't find one, PM me. Were moving into a house in Pell City this weekend and My kids and grandkids are in Alabaster. I'm through there all the time. I can set them for you.

you're swr's (standing wave ratio) shouldn't be above 1.5 when talking, if you use it much with high swr's it will eventually screw the cb up

The swr meter on the 29 is pretty weak. You need a swr meter that fits in-line. Also it's best to be away from any obstructions when setting them. Also make sure vehicle doors, tool box etc is closed, nobody standing near the antenna. All of these things will cause te reflected power to read differently giving you a bad reading.

make sure you have a good ground to antenna. If you have antenna mounted on a toolbox...Aluminum tool boxes should have jumper wire to truck body because of electrolysis that occurs between different metals will cause corrosion and loss of good metal to metal contact. Also check metal toolboxes to verify that it is screwed to truck body and does not have plastic or rubber mounting pads between truck body and tool box.

Head down 65 and get off at the exit past the timberline golf course. The "cb shak" is at the truck stop. Or at least it was a year ago. They set up all of mine

Don't use the SWR meter in the CB, you can pick up a SWR meter from the truck stop for about $30. park your vehicle at least 100 ft away from any obstruction as this will affect the SWR. The lower the SWR the farther your radio will get out, you want at least 1:5:1 but if possible get it lower. Do not use it if the SWR is over 3. If you have any excess coax between the radio and the antenna don't roll it up try to stretch it out.
I run a Firestik II in my truck, the tip is tunable, the screw in the tip can be adjusted in or out depending on what the meter is showing. You tune it by first checking the SWR on channels 1, 20, and 40, note which channels have the highest and lowest SWR reading. If it's high on 40 or 20 then the tip needs to be screwed in, if it's higher on 1 than the others then the tips needs to be screwed out. If a reading of 1:5:1 or lower is obtained on channel 20 then leave it, ultimately you want to get all channels at 1:5:1 or lower but that does not always happen.

The tunable tips are the only way to go. If you ever move your antenna or change vehicles etc. you can just adjust the tip. I also run the FS 2

I used to run a Wilson 2000 when I drove an International, now that I am in a Freightliner I couldnt get the SWR below 1:6:1 swapped to the FS II and got it down to 1:3:1. Can get out over 20 miles

I spent many rears playing with radios. I've talked to people all over the world, even on 5 watts Summer skip brings in a lot of south america. I got my HAM license when they took the morse out of it. I like the HAM a little better because people aren't trying to step all over each other.
