I still feel like it's the tps...Most newer atv carbs have them.

I agree....Also if you look in the electrical section at lowes near the heat shrink they also have some really thick stick tape. It's for insulation on wiring and looks almost like tennis racket tape. It's really sticky stuff...may work too.

Just wish I knew what I needed to buy. Im guessing that as long as that spring is held up in there, I should be fine??

When you rebuild the carb and it is off, you might be able to use some shrink tubing to go around the wire and the carb, to hold the spring in. Shrinking it, once in place should size to the carb body, and the wire.

You can buy it at most electrical places.

David B.

They may have changed the wiring harness colors on the 2004, but at the fuse box I have a yellow wire coming from the carburetor heater fuse going through a thermo switch to the carburetor heater.

It takes a long time to grow an old friend.

I would think so, yes. The ones Ive worked on look just like yours. Only with the small clear looking rubber over it.

That rubber is what this one had, but once the carb started leaking gas, it ruined that rubber and it tore off.

Now if someone can point me to a step by step or a "how to" video of a carb rebuild on a 2004 (or one close), I will be in business!!

They are all the same...from a outboard to a lawn mower not much difference between them. In all of them you are going to clean or replace the needles...float and float needle vavle. Just use a work bench and lay out a clean white towel. This helps things to be visable as well as prevents them from rolling away. Take it apart carefully placing parts in an order you can tell they go back. Take pictures if need be.

Select the parts area you wish...you can move digram by dragging it around...put your mouse on the boxes with the numbers and it will tell you what it is...

Thanks David. Now I just have to learn how to rebuild the carb.....lol.

Fairly easy. The ethonol in the gas is what causes problems.

I take plenty of pics with the cell phone of the carb from differnt angles, to show where the hoses, lines go, while it is still attached to the 4 wheeler. Once off take pictures for the top, sides and bottom.

Do the same when you remove a plate, or section to take pictures of the new insides.

On removing the idle adjustment, you will need to determine the setting it is screwed in. You may do this by screwing it all the way in, counting each full turn of the screw head from it's original position. Usually 2 1/4 to 2 1/2 turns (I believe, but don't hold me to it) This way when you put the new idle adjustment screw in, you screw it all the way in, and turn it back the same amount of turns the original took.

This way you should be really close to having proper idle mixture.

After removing all the parts off and out of the carb, I place the carb and its parts a non cooking pot full of water and boil it. Don't place parts which will be hurt with boiling water, ie old rubber parts, electrical wires, etc.

You will be amazed at the crud which comes out. It will stink, and do this when the wife isn't home. LOL. Outside on a fish cooker is better. Just don't use a good pot.

I have never had to use a carb kit, except once for a broken seal, and a small jet which refused to become clean. I clean all my jets with a torch tip cleaner, and in the boilding water.

After removing the parts and the carb, I spray with carb/brake cleaner, and then with the airgun.

Reassemble and look at pictures, and take your time.

You'll be good to go.

God Bless,
David B.
