You'll be fine, although I'm sure it all depends on which surgeon you use. I completely blew my C 5/6 and C 6/7 out 18 months ago. I had no cushion at all between the vertebrae and the nerves that ran down my left arm. The vertebrae were sitting directly on top of each other with a nerve sandwiched between. I put up with the pain for 4 weeks before consulting a surgeon and had surgery 3 days later.
When the surgeon came by for his first post operative visit, I thanked him for fixing my disks and riding me of the pain. He told me it was too soon to know that, but it wasn't. I had immediate pain relief. It normally takes 1 year for complete fusion to take place. I had complete fusion 3 months post surgery.
The only post operative pain I had was the incision on my neck. It felt like they stuck a VW bug through that small hole.

Ian, you have been been on my thoughts and prayers this week. Praying for success and healing!!
Father God,
We thank You for another day. Another day we were not promised. Father, we thank You for the salvation we freely have in Your son Jesus. Thank You for Your love, grace, and hearing our prayers.
We lift up Ian, and ask in prayers of intervention for success in his surgery today. Lord, may Your healings hands be upon everything and everyone who come in contact with Ian. May Your Holy Spirit guide, direct, and perform the surgery today, and all the care over Ian.
May Ian feel Your Holy presence. May he be assured You are God, the Great I Am. May there be great success, not for Ian's glory, but Yours.
We know it is not about us, but Jesus.

David B. Definately not at DCH (doesn't Come Home) I HATE that place, I'd rather get herpes than go there. I was at St. Vincents. last night I started feeling better and better, slept real good last night and only in slight pain today where they put the plate.
