For those of you that have hunted over the past few days, have you seen any chasing/ cruising going on or does it appear to be over. In theory if the rut occurred when it should have (late Dec./ early Jan.) there should be some does coming back in that weren't bred but I'm kind of thinking it may have been late this year? Hunting Friday thru Sunday and trying to get a game plan...

I'd sit a good plot all day or 10 til dark. Their way done up my way, however I'm 2o mile away. The deer are pouring into the plots on our place.

kicked in late on my place for sure, bucks didnt split up till end of december/ beginning of jan. This last full moon seemed to kick it off, around 6-7 days ago. My places in south west jackson are on fire rite now, missed a good 7 point( im about to describe several misses, i know i know i need to shoot better, i just get buck fever REALLY bad), anyway missed that 7 point chasing 2 does saturday morning, rite on there butts. about 9:30 rolls around and see 2 more does slippin up the ridge, after a few minutes i caught a glimpse of a buck goin up same way, assume he was trailing them. Let him slip by me.

saturday evening rolls around, and i miss a descent 5 point chasing a doe. All i seen that evening. I need to learn to control deer fever, not just bucks, lol.

Sunday morning gets here, going up to the same thickett at the bottom of the ridge. As soon as i get up there bumped the giant ive been after off bed with 6 does, im thinkin bummer, just messed up, it wasnt 10 minutes later i killed my good mature 8 point chasing a doe down the edge of the thickett. Drug him down, my buddy went straight back up and shot a small 6( that he thought was a little bigger) but he was by hisself, first buck ive seen in 5-6 days not trailin one.

Last thursday i went in the evening, had deer running wild in the thickett, couldnt really see many of them, caught a glimpse of 4. but couldnt tell what they were, I go home and had to go to the store around 6:30. As i was pulling out my lights hit the field and i see a beautiful high 120's 8 point chasing a single doe around a whole herd of does. only one he was interested in.

Sorry for long post, but there hot on my places, Only expect it to last through the end of the weekend or so. And i have been seeing tons of deer the last few sits, hunting relatively low morning and evening. Unless you got thick cutover, deer are low, they aint goin up past were the rocks stop.

My neighbor also killed another pretty good 8 chasing 2 does on monday or tuesday, cant remember

Yep , big ones have finally decided to come out to play. Next 10 days should be the best this season for big uns. I'm gonna hunt thick, high traffic areas in AM, might sit a plot in PM. Can't go wrong anytime near a food source this late with so little food left.

I had a buck run out the rocks last night chasing a doe too dark to see for sure how big he was. I've seen too many small bucks this year 4's and 6's fewest does I've ever seen. We may have killed too many does over the last few years.

I haven't seen any flat out chasing going on, but have seen bucks cruising. I killed an 8 pt. cruising Saturday and brother - in - law killed one cruising yesterday. Most of the deer movement we have seen as been between 8 - 12 o'clock.

If i understood correctly, You can only access zone A from the main road on top, i may be wrong, but think if you hunt zone A, you must go in on co rd 138

you are correct, there is no access from the bottom, its all private and they get p/o when you ask em about it. As you can image every hunter has aggravated the snot out of most of em.

It would take flippin forever to get to the area your talking about from the top, Aint no way in heck id drag a deer back up there either, It would have to be dang big if i did, And even then id prob drag it down and try to get it from the bottom grin

Yep. That stuff down in that area has pretty much become additional personal land for the landowners that surround it.

Killed a 6 pt Monday and he was smelling for a doew which had just left food plot. His tarsel glands were not black so he wasn't in full rut. I have hunted Jackson Co all year and rut has not occurred and they seem to be in pre rut now.

Its going now my friend, Not every buck gets to breed, The 6 point my buddy shot this weekend past weekend didnt have black tarsals either. I think its because he was inferior to what else is running around. All my big deers tarsals are black as black can get. The 120" 8 i killed this past weekend had pitch black tarsals, huge swole neck and stunk to high heaven.

Its going on now, if you aint seeing it, change locations. I pulled my cards this morning( got skunked, seen 0 deer) and had a mature buck with a huge neck and black tarsals last night hounding a doe. Most of the bucks that ive seen lately was trailing a doe.
