I have heard people say deer movement is slow on a South wind and next to nothing on an East wind. Any truth to this?

Here is how I've always heard it, in regards to fishing.

Wind from the West, fish bite the best.
Wind from the East, fish bite the least.
Wind from the North, do not go forth.
Wind from the South blows bait in their mouth.

Depends on if you are sitting up wind or down wind of where deer are. If you are sitting up wind of where you expect to see the deer yes it will be slow on E, S as well as W, N.

Lots of times deer will feed or move into the wind so the wind may determine if they go toward you or away from you causing you to see more or less from your location. But they move regardless of wind direction. In my opinion

I watched a nice 8 pt walk casually, downwind with a 15-20 mph wind at his back. If theres someplace they want to go, they'll go there regardless of wind

Yes... Wind speed and direction does make a difference. Just pay attention.

I think that arguement has some merit. If winds are mainly strong from the south, that usually means it is hot and getting hot and stormy.
And in this part of the country fronts usually come from the north, west, or south. So an East wind is kind of different for this area of the country.

I am not talking about being in a hollow where the wind is unpredictiable.

storms coming in from the west will cause a pre storm wind from the east....

This is amusing to me. No truth at all in that wise tail. Deer move where they want, when they want, and whatever wind is an advantage to their survival, they will navigate it as they please.

I got my two biggest bow kills with the wind blowing out of the east.

To me that's about like saying bucks don't move when it's warm especially after the rut. I have a friend that has killed two giants in 70 degree temps after the rut.

Would walk over a naked woman to get to a gobblin turkey!
