I concur. In some instances, you wouldn't even shoot up. That bullet can travel from one ridge to the next, and I may not know you are on the next ridge in your tree stand because you are wearing full camo.

I think many of the hunter shootings are intentional. How can you not distinguish between a person and a deer, and hit your target. I know that there are some accidents, but I just find it hard to understand.

I never understood this, why would you take it off in the tree? You're just as able to be shot up there than if you were on the ground.

Okay, what happens if you fall and your harness catches you but then are knocked out? or even better I've seen countless people talking about others walking in on them.

but what good does it do taking it off up a tree?

I always wear my orange and leave my orange hat on while in a stand. I use to think it might make deer able to see me, until I killed an 8 point in KY with my bow at 12 steps. I was wearing the required orange hat and full orange vest.

I do not usually use a light to walk out of the woods in the evenings and rarely do in the mornings. I guess I was blessed with extremely good night vision because I don't need a light even when the moon isn't up.

Now that my son goes with me I try to always make sure he has a flashlight in his hands and that it's on. I know a guy got shot last year that had a light on but that's not going to happen often.

Because I don't like spooking turkeys.

I gave the same message. There is NO getting it back. A bullet, or bullets will take the life of a stranger, an enemy, a deer, an intruder.....but it will also take the life of a brother, a mom, a friend. Make sure you are 100% sure what the target is and what's beyond that target.
Make sure you define the consequences, not the consequences defining you. Most importantly, you are embarking on one of the greatest responsibilities and freedoms of your lifetime and you control the outcome.

Some do, some don't....what's it gonna be?

I'll go one step further: Some of these people should not be allowed to reproduce. Each generation gets worse. Owning weapons should be out of the question all together.

That's what happens to a bastard child. No one is around to teach him the things that were once passed along to young men. How to handle a weapon, work on your own house or cars, how to win a fist fight and if you didn't win then knowing it's ok to take an arse whippin from time to time. Just makes you better the next go round.

The fall of America!

slap

To keep from spooking turkeys, squirrels, etc. Your tether rope on your safety harness shouldn't be no more than a couple of feet long anyway. So if you do fall, you will still be able to reach your stand. And if someone walks in on me, again they ain't looking for deer in a tree. Plus if someone does where I hunt, they're poaching and I don't want to be seen.

Besides, didn't you know all of us Bammers hate orange?

Here's another twist to all of this: The last time my son and I were hunting up at Dugger Mountain, we walked in on the Pinhotie Trail to get to our spot. Later as we walked back to the trail head, we met a couple of hikers. The woman was scared to death to see a couple of guys with guns. She asked what we were hunting and told us that she comes from a long line of hunters. But she and her husband were wearing normal colors.

This just shows how ignorant the general public is. You would think recreational hikers would not want to be in the woods during hunting season. If they are, you would expect them to wear orange or some other bright colors to keep from having trouble.

I know better than to hunt right on a trail, but what if one of these shoot anything that moves sort of people was hunting in an area without knowing the trail was there? Dead hikers.

Not for over regulating things, but those trails should be closed during hunting season. People who want to hike can go to state parks where hunting is not allowed. If not, hikers should be required to wear the same 144 inches of orange that we are.
