Slooow. Looks like it will start some and then throttles down. Hopefully we will have some action by this weekend. Now, I'm just speaking about our area. A couple of people I've talked to are having the same situation. Maybe there is some action in the county, somewhere.

I'm interested to read some responses to this thread...

Myself and two other guys leased 660 acres in Chambers (between Roanoke and Lafayette on the East side of county) from 1997 till 2011. One or two of those years we observed decent chasing from young bucks, but NEVER, EVER saw or killed a mature buck chasing a doe. Frankly, we would always see scrapes begin to show up at Christmas, but never actually have a rut. And no, it wasn't "late" like everybody claims, we simply never had a rut. And we killed the doodoo out of does with our bows (and guns early on) to attempt having a decent ratio, but I'm not sure that's what the problem even is. I don't believe we had a huntable number of mature bucks on the place, hardly ever got them on cameras at night.
We also leased 225 acres near Waverly on the West side of the county, had the exact same experience there. Chambers county as a whole to me does not have a discernable, defined rut. Not even in February, or March.
Both tracts, and multiple other clubs I'm aware of, show the same results. I have also noticed in the AON magazine "Truck Buck Contest" that there is almost never an entry from Chambers.

I was in a club down hwy 50 nearly at the tallapoosa line and we had no problems seeing bucks but i dont remember many people seeing them chase does. Every decent deer i killed was by himself.

I'll bite..

I had access to approx 500 acres just north of Waverly from 1998 to 2002 and it was without a doubt the best piece of property I've ever hunted. The last 3 weeks of January each year were simply awesome. There were a ton of does, but also a pile of bucks and the rut was very strong every year I hunted it.

This property produced some 120 to 140" bucks (although none were mine) and produced the heaviest bodied deer I've ever killed.

In full disclosure, I have a relative who bought 80 acres in Chambers just off Hwy 431 near Five Points. He turned a large kudzu patch into a 4 acre food plot. Other than this 4 acre plot, the entirety of the remaining acreage is super-thick short pines. It isn't uncommon for him to have 40 deer on that field in the evenings, including multiple older bucks. He can basically hand-pick which deer he wants just about any time he goes. That's the only place I know of that always has a strong rut in Chambers Co. He will begin telling me about the young deer harrassing does just after Christmas, and by mid-January he's sending me iPhone videos of racked deer chasing does on that big field. I think it varies from property to property based on who knows what variables.

Been hunting east side 431 near cannon church off the lagrange hwy. We start seeing rut on MLK weekend. I hunted this morning and from daylight to till 11am I had grunting and chasing action. I got lucky and shot a dandy 9pt.

I hunt in south Chambers, near Lee county line...saw one young 8 pt chasing does and grunting like crazy. That was on Jan 8th. Have seen multiple rubs/scrapes, but hunted all day last 3 days and have seen nothing but does. Nothing behind them. Crazy! I'm beginning to think its post-rut where I am. Who knows...

IMHO, I believe our initial rut mostly happens at night. (even with all of the night hunters) End of January into Feb. they start running low on does and have to get out in the daylight looking. The 5 biggest deer I've ever seen were in Feb. This comes from 43 years of being in the woods in the county. I'm sure others have differing opinions. But, if they are mostly nocturnal during the season, why would they go off chasing in the daytime with does everywhere? We have some pretty good deer in Chambers, but not nearly enough are killed with the number of hunters we have.
