I got my last one done at Hart's beautiful mount but the nose cracked and there is some kind of glue on the rack, I guess he was in a hurry
if the nose cracked it wasn't prepared right before mounting...wasn't thinned enough.
I've always been told that the eyes and nose were the two things that weren't real. That they couldn't be saved. ???
The nose is the real skin. The nose pad is a very thin piece of skin. One little slip and you have a hole in the skin. The meat is not as easy to flesh away from the nose as it is the rest of the hide. If the taxidermist leaves any meat inside the pad, the nose will deform, pull, crack or whatever. You can cover the nose with epoxy sculpt and roll a tool across it that makes the imprints of a live deers nose on it, but I'm not real fond of it.
