I'm not a fan of unions. I think they had their place at one time but for the most part I think they do more harm than good. With that being said, this is NOT a thread to bash unions, sing their praises or debate/argue their usefulness. If you want to do that please start your own thread as this is a serious question. Ive heard that Boeing made their final offer to the union they have been negotiating with and the union rejected their offer. Now Boeing will move operations and will probably be coming to Alabama. It was no secret that if an agreement wasn't reached they would move. The union knew this so why would they reject the offer and put themselves out of a job? Looking for serious insight here.

I don't think it's a guarantee they are coming to Alabama yet is it? I thought we were just one of the states they are looking at. That would be great news if so.

Not guaranteed they're coming here but pretty much guaranteed they are moving.

I suppose the union was weighing the cost of a nice, big wage/benefit package against the cost for Boeing to build new facilities somewhere else and was calling Boeing's bluff. I'd further guestimate that Boeing knew they'd be strung along year after year for more and more wage/benefit increases and said to Hell with it and they'd move to a non union environment and start fresh.

companies like to play cards like that. It is their deck of cards, they can play um how ever they like. Alabama is a right to work state. Which for companies is a good thing. For Unions not so much. I worked at a Union plant for 12 yrs, the Union Pres was a smarta** that wanted stuff his on way. Well needless to say, they closed the plant. Close to 1000 union members and 2 or 3 hundred non union employees lost good jobs. I just bet that 85% of those people would like to have those jobs back. Its been 10 yrs since the plant closed. It (plant closing) will change everyone involved lives. As to why unions do this... well they are trying to get the best contract they possibly can for the employees. Sometimes though they seem to forget that the companies are also trying to get the best contract for the company as well

Everything you said was good except for this. Union leaders (the highest up) very seldom care about the members, just the members dollars.

Oh and to keep in compliance with F150's request, Alabama is 1 of 23 states competing for the contract.

Looks like their union made an agreement and 777 production will probably stay in Wash. (according to WHNT)

Boeing played the other states proposals like a fiddle.

Its strange to see States compete for a contract from a corporation. Who holds the real power?

Our company is not union but we compete in union environments all the time. When there is a prevailing wage job, we pay the hourly employees the prevailing wage but take what would be the union benefits and invest it (fully vested) on the employees behalf. They come out much better off than union employees and are very happy with the deal.

good companies do just that. Doing that keeps the good employees and makes the bad employees move on to the competition. wink

Not many companies will treat employees that good. If not for unions pay and benefits would decrease for most of the working people. They don't give anything away. There are corrupt people in unions and in government. We all live in an imperfect world, don't forget that.

Let me pose a question to u Ford150man, if u were in a position to vote on the future of your job wages/benefits instead of just bending over and taking it (loss of benefits, wages, pension), how many times would u just vote your future away? There comes a point where u have to take a stand, Boeing is a cut throat sorry
a-- bunch. The 777 line was never moving anywhere, anybody that thinks it was coming to AL is dreaming. It was only posturing by Boeing, & grandstanding trying to make the represented employees look like the villains in the media. If more people would stand up for themselves this country would not be heading in the direction it headed.

I know for a Fact that Very High Ranking Boeing officials will be in Huntsville Tues. morning @ 8am on a flight from Washington. I'd like to know what its about.(Probably posturing) like Dunlop did.

It is what it is.

Boeing is not going anywhere. Union concessions will keep them where they are at.
