Alabama hunter in serious condition after falling from tree, landing on arrow

Published January 01, 2014/
Associated Press

BEAUREGARD, Ala. – Lee County sheriff's officials say a hunter has been hospitalized in serious condition after falling from a tree and landing on an arrow.

The Opelika-Auburn News reports that a 27-year-old man fell out of a tree stand Monday evening in eastern Alabama and emergency responders found an arrow lodged just above his heart.

The man was taken to the Columbus Medical Center in Columbus, Ga.

Sheriff Jay Jones says the man's identity hasn't been released. The state Department of Conservation and Natural Resources is investigating the accident.

Isn't this the same town where the kid was accidentally shot?

Yep, I just checked, it was.

Yes. Never start up a tree without it.

I hate to hear, it only takes one mistake for things to get serious quick.

This is the son in law of a lady that I work with. Arrow was an inch from his heart. He is in stable condition, and should be fine as long as they can keep him from getting an infection. He was climbing out of the stand and fell. She is not familiar with hunting, so I'm not sure if he was climbing down with bow in hand and an arrow knocked or what the exact scenario was.

Same community where another hunter fell from his stand earlier in the season. Laid in the woods for many hrs, before they found him. last I heard he was still paralyzed. TOO MUCH tragedy for one place in one year.
