Am glad you scored, I was pulling far ya, I like your enthusiasm, you've been hunting like you're mad at them.

No need to apologize! I wasn't being a smart @$$ with the Yoda comment ... I really look at you and a couple others as the Jedi masters of hillbilly hunting ... Thats the kind of hunting I'm doing so I', just soaking it all up.

I really wanted you to enlighten me about the BDC

Congrats rocket! You deserve that one for sure!!
I'll tell you what I think 2dogs means by that. Shooting a 30-06 in woods or anywhere inside 200 yards, there's no guess work really. Get you a scope with A (as in 1) crosshair, sight it in dead on or an inch high at 100yards. Put that crosshair on its shoulder and squeeze the trigger! Again, there's no guess work inside 200 if you sight in 1" high at 100. Congrats again man, and I hope you kill 1000 more!

Correct.

Rocket , in your story I picked up that it took a few seconds to sight on the correct "bubble" and on the second doe choosing the correct one. If you are only hunting timber , no need for anything to cause confusion and cost valuable seconds.
When the buck of a lifetime walks by, you need to think as little as possible, just react. Sometimes the window of opportunity opens slowly, sometimes quickly, but almost always slams shut in the blink of an eye. A simple, heavy reticle that is quick on the target is all you need in the timber. IMO.

Excellent info. I've got a Tikka T3 Lite in 243 and I've been looking to get a good sight for it for a little entry level competition shooting ... I could put the Nikon 4-16x50 BDC on it and find another good scope for the 30-06 instead of my current setup

One thing I love about the Nikon though ... It was beginning to get dark and I noticed that through the scope was significantly brighter than without it. I'd probably want to get another 50 mm objective as my eyes are aging pretty fast now

Congrats again Paul. You will never forget the details of that one. But I gotta ask; 600' elevation change, wasn't that supposed to be uphill? grin

By the way, I agree about the scope. If you're not hunting beanfields, clearcuts, or powerlines, then a single reticule low to medium power scope is the ticket. I turn my scope down for the walk in or out incase I bump one. Its much easier to find a deer if it isn't cranked up to 9X.

Good story. I like the story that much better because I can tell that you are excited about it. thumbup

Ditto what everyone said about disregarding bullet drop within 150 yds of so. Try it out at the range to make yourself more comfortable (compare small deviation from bullseye to the deer's body). Put it on the shoulder and just react.
