High shoulder them for sure with that.
I found 2 doe last year about a week after they were shot withen 20 minutes of each other by a club member.
They were shot at close range with a 300 mag of some variant..
He thought he missed them both because of no blood and they ran right off.
Both were double lung shot and the exit was no bigger than the entrance basically sealing up and leaving no blood trail.

I've had some issues with 7mm Rem mag and 150 grain. I've shot a bunch that had no exit wound and no blood trails "BUT" none ran out of sight.

I shot one 7 point broadside at about 20 yards. He had a big hole in one side of the ribs but no exit hole. I found a large portion of the bullet under the skin near his hind hoof. The bullets were exploding at close range.

I would just switch to heavier or better bullets.

So, to change the direction of this thread a little, I've heard a few ammo suggestions, what would be the best off the shelf ammo choice without breaking the bank? I want the deer to feel like a sledgehammer went through them, instead of a laser. And, once again, I can't say thanks enough for your insights and shared experiences.

Well since you said it...
I think the 7mm mag round is a good enough round, but is way over kill for deer. The problem is most and I say MOST ppl dont shoot a magnum round well. Recoil and muzzle blast make for a flinch. This translates to poor accuracy and thus lost animals. You said good shot placement, so that would be ruled out in your case. IMHO, i have found that a well constructed bonded bullet is needed for magnum velocities at close range. Ballistic tip type bullets will and do sometimes explode at close range. They shine at longer ranges because they have lost that extra velocity.

With standard rounds like the 7mm08, 308 and 270 recoil and muzzle blast are much less and therefore far more comfortable to shoot. This increased confidence, accuracy, and clean kills with little or no tracking. It also seems to me that a wider range of bullet construction types work well in these rounds. I have seen several ppl go from magnum rounds to a lighter round with much better results.

I shoot the higher end winchester shells and they dont go far and plenty of blood the shells are high over 50 bucks and i call them the little black box of death but i find every deer. even shot a goat at under 50 yards with a 270 wsm and while the bullet went thru so quick there was still blood everywhere.

May or may not apply to you and your situation, but this is very good info here.

I shoot 175 grain Federal Power Points out of my 7 mag. If they don't immediately drop there is a very nice blood trail to follow.

I shoot a 7mm mag and use Wichester CXP3's in a 175 grain(the box says they are excellent for brown bear,moose & elk)lol.
Every deer(at least 40) I have shot with them,from 20 yds to 200 yds,have been a bang flop.
But now, with that being said I have shot 3 deer at 80-100 yds +/- that the bullet did not exit, but it did knock them 3 feet sideways DRT.Also have a buddy that shoots a 7mm w/154 grain BTSP and he has had it happen to him once.
Always thought that was kinda strange.

What he said.... I have hunted with a sender in 300 win mag for 7 or 8 years now. Never makes a difference if there 20 yards or 200 yards, if you take out the front shouler(s) it's just bang and flop. They have a hard time running off when you take out the front landing gear.

Now don't say that a bullet coming out of a 7 mag ain't expanding when it goes through a deer, some dumbass redneck will laugh you off the board like they tried to do me last year. The best advice I can give you is sell that worthless for deer hunting, elk gun that someone sold you and go get a 308, 30-06, 270, 280, 300 mag, 243, 30-30, 35 whelen, 45-70, 7mm 08, anything other than a 7 mag.
