I killed 19 with mine using hornady v-max 50 or 55 gn. I never lost a deer, you shoot one behind the shoulder its a dead deer, it will run 80 yards with no blood trail but dead. I have a friend that used to have to kill 300 does a year, he managed about 10,000 acres in the mississippi delta and shot most of them off the levy after he put his clients out. His gun of choice was a 22-250. They don't kick, not too loud, and very deadly for someone that knows how to shoot a deer well.

Love mine and have no problem shooting deer with it. Like it has been said, good shot placement puts them down.

I'm going to have to try it this year. The 260 Rem is a great round. Remington screwed the pooch on it if I remember correctly, something about wrong twist rate barrels initially not stabilizing the 120grainers. By they time they corrected the problem, the damage was done. I remember a good friend of mine getting one for Christmas the year they came out and his dad fighting to sight it in. I wouldn't mine having one if I didn't already have a 6mm Rem, 257 Roberts, 7mm08Rem and 308 Win.

savage makes a 9 twist 260. dont know the model number but a friend has 1 , i think its call long rangehunter. it shoots 130 bergers pretty . the tc icon comes in 6.5 creedmore it has and 8 twist and can fire 140s. you can run the 6.5 creedmore as fast as a 260 if you chunk the soft hornady brass, and make brass your self from 22-250 lapua.

I love my .22-250. I bought it off a guy that sold it to me after he had a couple deer run off.

True story.

I bet there is some dude out there that has killed 5,000 with a .22 Mag wearing nothing but a K-Bar hanging off his jock strap and some face paint. I'm sure he'd tell you .22-250 is overkill, just get a .22lr and try some sub-sonic ammo. Works fine on yearlings for him.

i think the whole point is get lost here. if you are looking to shoot a deer with a 22-250 thats fine just make sure you hit it correctly. i think what the op is going for is a gun for a child. here are the facts, a 22-250 is just as good as a 243. example 243 shooting 90 gr bullet at 3050 fps , at 200 yards equals 971 ft lbs of energy. 22-250 shooting 62 grain barnes x a deer hunting bullet at 3500 fps at 200 yards equals 1001 ft lbs of energy. run the numbers and you will see that IF you keep a 22-250 under 200 yards and make good shoots it is better that a 243. their is nothing wrong with starting children out with 223, 22-250, or 243. them main thing is practice and skill set.

What about a 62 gr 223 at 200 yards?

62 gr barnes x fired at 3100 fps would have 779 ft lbs of energy at 200 yards.

Great post!!
Accuracy matters far more than caliber no matter what you are shooting. Anyone potentially recoil sensitive would be a lot better off shooting a low recoiling round that they weren't afraid of, and shooting it accurately, than shutting their eyes and flinching when shooting a caliber that is supposedly better suited for deer hunting.

A .22 rimfire has killed a BUNCH of deer...just cause it will, doesnt mean its a good hunting caliber

I have killed a bunch of deer with a .22lr subsonic shell, never lost one and all killed almost immediately. Under special circumstances it will kill the snot out of them.

This fact does not make the .22 rimfire a decent deer HUNTING cartridge and I sure as hell wouldn't hunt with one.

or a 22-250......

Not that I plan to replicate it Troy, but I'm curious....where did you shoot them to make them die so quick with subsonic 22? In the ear?

Maybe so but a 22-250 is a far cry from a subsonic 22 LR.

ear hole usually. I shot Rem lead HP subsonics, little noise and accurate. I killed one deep inside the Wilsonville Steam plant hiding behind some boilers. Don't know how it got in there but I know how it got out.

there used to be an old poacher in Tuscaloosa Co that used a .22 rimfire with shot HPs, he killed a lot of deer. They were close and he could shoot pretty damn good with a light on em shocked shocked Gil Green finally caught him one rainy night.

These or 65 grn Sierra Gamekings in 223 makes them DRT when placed appropriately. I'm sure a similar load in 22/250 would have similar results.
