I've thought about doing it at our place, but just to get rid of as many hickory trees as possible to make more room for the oaks. Also would create some sunlight and a little cover in some other wise pretty wide open areas. I wouldn't personally hinge cut anything of value (monetary or deer) but that's just me.

2Dogs is fortunate enough to have about as ideal cover/ transition areas, edges, etc. as one could have in mnt type terrain so I could see no reason he would need to do it. For others, who historically have cut mixed timber every 25 years unfortunately have a problem of not enough cover so hinge cutting could be advantageous. That being said, the best long term plan is to implement a TSI program so you always have scattered sections of thick cover.
