Kieffer's is very good. Spent many a day there on the patio!

Hey Mike - have you been there since they moved across the stret?
Baptist bought the entire block where they used to be, so Kieffer's bought a lot across the street and built a newer and slightly larger version of the same old house that they were originally in. They kept a lot of the old charm and feel. Food is just as good as it ever has been.
If there's one restaurant that I'd want to own a franchise of, that would be it.

I don't do much in Jackson anymore since my parents moved away. Haven't been to the new location but I've driven by it.
I heard the old Iron Horse Grill was scheduled to be "rebuilt" for a 3rd time. I used to wait tables and bar tend there after college and before law school in the early 90s before the first fire. That was hands down the best restaurant in town.
Speaking of Jackson, has anyone ever been to what we called "The Subway Lounge"? Little basement room of an old hotel in the hood (Farrish Street-Little Vietnam area) for blues music...you could buy red beans and rice or chicken and a mop bucket with ice for your drinks next door at a house through their window. You could also buy pot and crack but only on the porch. This place had a 7 foot ceiling and was a 20 x 60 rectangle dark basement...great local blues club that brought in acts. Sometimes blues and music legends would drop in unannounced to the public to play an impromptu gig. Saw BB King, Fingers Taylor, Eric Clapton, Johhny Lee Hooker, and several others who stopped in for a few songs and then back on their tour busses.

Good Times. Glad someone else experienced that too!

I only went to Subway Lounge 2 or 3 times, but spent many o nights cruising Farish Street and Mill Street, spraying hookers with fire extinguishers. Iron Horse was pretty cool too, except for all the fires. You could eat at the Iron Horse, then party at the MIdnight Sun till 1 am or until the last fight, then head on over to the dock till 4.....good times! Funny how those little dumps like Inez's place and the Dutch Bar could get jam packed shoulder to shoulder, but open up a big nice club and no one would show.
If you want to always win, never play anyone better than you!

Yeah, I went to the Subway twice when Val was at Millsaps. Unique place, that's for sure.
