My son has been begging for a crossbow so I think I am going to break down and buy us one to play with. I have decided that I am going to go with a Barnett Jackal. Does anybody here shot the Jackal? What kind of bolts are y'all shooting? Carbon or aluminum? What kind and size heads are y'all using? I have never shot a crossbow so any info would be helpful.Thanks

go with a wicked ridge warrior. for $90 more u get a lot better bow. Friend has the Jackal and it's just a bit flimsy. Check with dave at wyvern creations on line. comes with everything you will need. Bolts, cocker, quiver, and sling.

I have a jackal and the only coplaint I had was with the scope that was on it. Replaced that and loved it. What part of lower AL are you in? If you are close to Mobile I will be more than happy to let you & your son shoot it. Was actually thinking about putting it in the classifieds since I want a real bow next year.

I have a quad 400, have had it for several years. I have killed a bunch of deer with it and have never had a problem. To my knowledge you can not tune them like a compound and I had some issues getting mine to shoot certain fixed blade broadheads. And not all mechanicals will operate correctly with a crossbow. I bought some steelheads that would open in flight nearly every time.

I have a Stryker 350 and Parker Buckbuster 175. Have killed several deer with both. I don't know what you're looking to spend but for the money the Stryker is very hard to beat. For a crossbow its quiet and plenty accurate. No complaints about the Buckbuster either. Its a little louder but shoots hard enough that its not much of a concern unless over 30 yds. I would probably go with something with a life time warranty though if you're going to buy new. Wyverns is where I bought mine and they are as good as any I've dealt with.

i have an hunt with a jackal i don't worry about so called string noise if the deer is in noprmal range the arrow speed is 320 fp s they can not jump the string it is too fast. so dead is dead. you don't need a canon to kill a deer over kill is too much you need to get what you want and be sure all screws are tight not too tight and enjoy the best crossbow on the market. for the money they are hard to beat. $299.99 complete ready to go. the are very accurate. mine groups too good i have to change target to kieep from messing up arrows. which can be expensive over time.i don't have any dislikes about the jackal that is why i have2 of them.they are awesome crossbowsit will kill anyanimal that walkis this earth. shot placement is the key to killing.if your worried about string noise get some bowjax which help but none are quite.

wonder if the cab has considered the use of crossbows for turkey hunting i wish i had away of getting there.
