Talked to my buddy (1/2 landowner) (we work for same company) who was with Terry (1/2 landowner) and the one who shot first and missed (that was prior arrangement and they didnt expect this to step out) and he said rumors are rampant and he is hearing all kinds of stories. Anyway, they are not deer hunters... they are duck hunters and that is what they do on this property. They had never seen this buck before and dont know where it came from. He and his land partiner are as blown away as everyone else is. These are good people folks!

I can 100% guarantee you that this deer did not come from a high fence! Terry is one of my closest friends, and have known him for twenty years. I know the exact location of where this deer was killed. Very upstanding person.

High water pushed alot of deer out of the refuge bottoms this past week.That deer is awesome to say the least.

Having rabbit hunted the refuges in Jackson Co a bunch 6-10 years ago, seeing a deer that may have been pushed off them due to high waters is not a shock. I saw some absolute studs while rabbit hunting them.

You can grow big deer you just have to let them walk till they reach their max 5-7yrs old with good genetics and nutrition ,
its just hard on hunters because most hunters hardly ever see a
deer in the 140's much less a 8pt that scores 170.
Congrats to that guy I would rather be lucky than good anyday ,
what a awesome deer to have the privilege to take , wow looking
at that thing on the wall everyday ... how blessed you are to even see a deer like that.

Don't know how close you are to Scottsboro, but you could drive to Chris McCarver shop North of S'boro and see the antlers along with others and some fine Taxi wotk.

Word on the street is another 170 inch buck was killed in Jackson County. Typical 12 point that scored 173 3/8!

I saw it, main frame 13pt, 7X6 plus a couple stickers. 173in. The G6 was short, but he had it. Very impressive! Mr. Horace Clemons ( former county commish) killed it. In his house on the phone and saw it out the window bout 400 yards, grabbed his gun and put the stalk on it!

Wow! JC is producing some monsters and I bet many larger than your average mature Bama buck are taken each year. I also attribute it to fine trigger restraint and management.
