Where around Union Springs? I killed a decent buck in Midway on January 1st a few years ago. He was freshening up a scrape. No chasing at that point, but the rut was heating up.
I am now hunting a few miles east of there toward Eufaula and I can say that our peak rut has probably ended. This is my first year in the club and I was skeptical when the guys told me that the rut was generally during the 2nd week of December. I am now a believer. I am a firm believer that a balanced sex ratio leads to an earlier rut. I have seen just as many young bucks on this property as I have does. It's 3000 acres and the club has tried to take 60 does per year for the last 20 years or so.
