Serviced the tractor and hooked the sprayer up. Will spray gly as soon as it dries out a little.

Then about 15 hours with the disk getting ready to plant.

Seems like the season just went out.

What’s your standard timing sir? You obviously put a lot of effort into your fields.

I like to plant the 3rd or 4th week of April. It depends on how wet it is.

Nice. What all are you planting? I ask because I plant mine much later. Always learning.

Sunflowers and corn. I usually have a good bit of volunteer millet in places. I’ll plant a couple
bags of brown top millet every 3 years or so

Where do you get your clearfield seeds? Do you spray anything other than beyond once the plants start establishing?

I get the seed from my local co-op.

I spray Section 3 for grass and Plateau for broadleafs when the plants are a few weeks old

Interested note. Just found out the co-op I use will now add pre emerge to
the fertilize when they mix it at no extra charge. Big time saver.

I read you could apply dual mag and plant into it but was hesitant.

I have been using Framework which is Prowl H2O before they got bought out

My Co-Op guy is using something new this year. Can’t remember the name but it’s
safe for sunflowers and corn

I’ll get the name and post it

Any chance one of you more experienced will post a step by step? I am going to do some
Strips in my hay field this year for a fund raiser for our band and could use some tips. I tied last year but my millet never came up due to the drought, was going to just drill millet this year? Is there a better way?

With millet I’d do some staggered planting dates in 4 strips, And skip a swath between them. you could disk up fallow swaths a week before season and throw wheat out.
Millet is pretty easy but I’d still look at lime and fertilizer recommendations from a soil test. I’d spray glyphosate and then drill into that. Can spray 24d over the top off you have a broadleaf weed issue. Grasses produce seed so in this situation I wouldn’t try to get them killed. Personally once mature id bushhog and burn 1 strip a week starting in first weekend of August.

I love tractor time, but 15 HOURS discing? I’d definitely recommend looking at a no till planter. I spend zero hours discing and have great stands of corn etc with a fairly economical JD 7100 planter.

Corn was about an inch high today. I was worried I had planted it to deep. Probably do sunflowers Tuesday . Got a friend wants a field done like we did last year. Lakeside seed at North Sauty is already out of waterfowl seed corn . Has anyone seen any for sale ?

Mine has wheat up to my neck neck right now. Been to wet to mow. Maybe this weekend I can start. I usually plant by the last week of May.

Sprayed 3 weeks ago then planted 3 acres of brown top yesterday. Plant 2 more acres in 2 weeks then another acre after that.

Also put in a couple strips of Alyceclover down the shady side.
